The upside about him missing all that time earlier in his career, is that he has an AFL ready physique:

    Heath James
    Height 191cm
    Weight: 90kg

    Compare with:

    Andrew Schauble
    Height 192cm
    Weight: 93kg

    Here's a surprise:

    Aaron Rogers
    Height 191cm
    Weight: 90kg

Ok, I just don't believe this one:

    Mark Powell
    Height 190cm
    Weight: 88kg

Where did you get those figures from, because I have the above players all different

      James: 189cm, 89kgs
      Schauble: 193cm, 94kgs
      Rogers: 192cm, 86kgs
      Powell: 193cm, 83kgs

      Source: AFL 2004

Also I don't think Schauble at CHB is a wise idea, considering all the soft tissue injuries he has had since 2001. Also why put him out there, only to bring him back to FB for the so called Gorillas??? Plus pace wise Schauble isn't the quickest around. He is suited best to FB now days. Still to have both him and James working together on the Full Back line will provide us with hopefully less headacres than normal.

My data came from AFL.com. Comparing it with RWO revealed many quite significant descrepancies up to 5cm in height and 3kg in weight, so I have no idea what's right.

BTW did anyone hear the commentators on the telecast today, joking about ROK's height? Apparently he is listed in their records at 190cm, but they reckon he's no more than about 185cm.

As for who plays FB/CHB I just don't buy that sort of differentiation in roles.
IMO in AFL football today, its more like: LBTD1/LBTD2.
        Where:
        LBTD= Large Bodied Tall Defender

        Agree?

ROK definitely doesnt look tall, but he plays tall, having very safe hands in contested marks.

ROK has a very good posture and that is why he can take those overhead marks on a consistent basis..keep up the good work ROK!!

There's less difference between the defensive KP's as there are the forward ones. There's still subtle differences though; the CHB should be a more naturally attacking player than the FB generally... hence Mal Michael plays full back for Brisbane and Leppa CHB.

Actually, from what we saw today, that would lend itself to suggesting that Schaubes remains at FB, while Jamesy plays CHB?

Neither have the FB position as their own as that is not how football works. James is the more versatile defender and would take on the quicker leading forward such as a Leppitch, whilst Schauble would take (say) a Lynch. If Lynch was playing 'FF', then Schaubs would be the designated 'FB'. If Leppitch was the designated 'FF'... you get the picture.

Irrelevant really. The important thing is we have more defensive KPP options.

I agree with Bear - there are not so many "positional matchups" these days but more "player matchups."

I agree that it is all about player matchups but I think Schauble should match up on the slowest forward who plays out of the goalsquare.

ROK is meant to be 190cm too, the commentators were saying they were find it hard to believe.

I reckon Schauble prefers to play CHF. Didnt he play there when he got best and fairest or something? Anyways, I reckon James at defence gives us a lot of options to explore.
Using hypothesis testing via confidence intervals:
Nick Davis mark inside 50 = goal

when sandilands moved forward, i saw james rotate on to him, i was confident james could take him

his strength in the air is unparalleled in the sydney lineup IMO, and has a very timely fist...

i would love to see him take lloyd

I remember James' debut way back towards the end of 1999 and he took four really strong marks with limited ground time. We knew we had another talented youngster on the list that day - and it's great that it looks like we'll finally get to watch him become a fine footballer.

He seemed to fit in well in a key position down there, much better than Saddo could. Win win for both players and the team I should think.

IIRC he played there in 2002, but only got ten goals in 14 games. O'Loughlin, Hall, O'Keefe and LRT provide enough height there, I think.

I'm actually dreading rounds 5-7, where we come up against Neitz, Lloyd/Lucas and Ottens/Richo/Stafford. James is good in the air, but in a body-on-body contest I'd go with Schauble - and even then I wouldn't be too optimistic about it.

I cannot agree more strongly - he is a natural talent and may have found a home at full back. However I feel he will develop into KPP at either end.

His timely smile when Simmonds got that no contest free was fantastic. He had won the battle all day and a consolation prise was given to the forwards. Magic stuff

Heath has been on my list for a while and hope he stays there...
