Yep, its a great sound when the whole crowd belts it out. And its an awesome feeling when the ump blows his whistle and you can just see he is about to sweep his arms out in agreement.

To be honest, I dont think alot of the sydney crowd are comfortable enough with the rules to scream out BAAAALLLL unless its clearly obvious.

Cant believe people tell you off for making noise at the footy, but I can also understand how can get a bit annoying when someone behind you screams something at the top of his/her lungs non-stop for the whole game. It something makes me skip a heartbeat when this happens during a quiet period of the game.

I am not sure that Baaaalllllllllllllll is even in the rule book. It always gets me when people scream it like it is a rule. The fact is that the rule is failure to dispose of it correctly (handball or kick). There is no rule called dropping the ball. Small point but I like it when fans understand the rule and call it correctly.
Please tell me u are just joking with us here!! Dropping the Ball or being tackled with the dam thing after prior oppurtunity is HOLDING THE BALL. Deadset one of the worst posts of all time, my nan knows that rule!

When is the Sydney based Sydney crowd gunna get this right.

Great tackles are laid by Sydney players to silence, we are never going to get free kicks from the umps until supporters get more vocal - this was especially noticable on Sunday.

Plus one of the great aspects of footy is the crowd call "Baaaalllllllllllllll", followed by the yesssssssss, as the free is paid.
Norris Lurker and I always yell that out, followed by wild cheering if the free is paid.

I seem to remember Big Baz shrugging one ... two .. three .. tackles (as he does), and then getting pinged for HTB (prob by Goldspink .. grrrrrr). Does anyone remember that? He was pissed off. But I was livid. MEMO TO SELF: Must revisit the tape.

When do we get to appreciate the sheer strength of the player, and let them finish off the play. Kell was a classic, palming opponents off with the pill tucked up under his arm league-style.

sniff .. sob .. oh, now LOOK what I've gone and done .. !!

Yep Bootie, I remember that one. IIRC, there was a rule somewhere that said if you were caught, and spun around on the spot for more than 360 degrees looking for a team mate, then you would be pinged. Can anyone confirm/deny this?

Either way, it sux. If the tackle is not effective enough to wrap the ball up or jarr it free, then players should be able to stand and try to shrug off the tackle for as long as they want, or to look for a team mate. That was clearly the case with Bazza.. BS!!!!

There can be an ambit claim 'baaalll' or a very confident 'baaalll'. Both are legitimate and will keep the umpire on his toes.

yep, I saw that and was actually quite distraught... one of my favourite things in footy is watching Barry shrug off a heap of tackles- I was worried that a new rule had come in of "if three guys grab at you and you still haven't disposed of the ball then it just isn't fair and we have to give it to them!"
I knew him as a gentle young man, I cannot say for sure the reasons for his decline
We watched him fade before our very eyes, and years before his time

Other than signalling a goal, it is the only decent thing umpires do, swing the arms out to signal it, personally I love it.

I love hearing people either do the crowd "yeeeeeeeeeaaaaaaaaaaah" or "you're gone".

It should be especially good because we are one of the best tackling sides around.

And yet the crowd stays silent. I had a mate who didn't like footy, but just liked to go to yell "Baaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaallllll". He had a really loud voice. In fact he used to let it rip when you were driving around with him in his 180B.

Yep, Baz was right in front of the members stand where I was sitting when it happened. He kept his feet and his momentum and eventually dished off a clean hand ball and then the stupid ump decided that he should be penalised.

I had a cold last week and lost my voice on Friday. I'll tell you, going to the footy and not being able to yell is a slow torture!

I think you will find Hall shrugged the first tackler than the second tackler grabbed him a third tackler than went him he shrugged the third tackler off but he still had the second tackler grabbing onto his jumper for dare life and that is GONE and it was given no probs there.

I dare say I have no probs with Sydney crowds not screaming holding the ball as the crowd is usualy wrong so atleast we don't look as ill informed of the rules as some of Collingwoods and Richmond fans do.

Yeah, I saw it the same way too. Hall took too long with the hand disposal after the second player effected the tackle. Mind you, Bazza got away with this alot last year. Just ask a mate who barracks for a rival team. Maybe in reviewing the frees not paid to Hall last year the umps have uncovered an area that they shouldn't have called more often. May require Bazza to revise his game a liitle.

My technique not only includes screaming out as loud as I can but also doing the obligatory sweep of the arms.

Mind you this only works if the people on either side of you don't try the arm action as well!

I also like to perform the "boundary throw in grunt"
                                "aaaaaAAAAHHHHHH..WHO"

I make no apologies for my actions.
