But tactically, what would Cressa as a coach have given us? Nice to see/hear him last night - terrible blue and white outfit though.

Then Schneiderman with the police helmet on. Fitting end to a circus all round.
Who would get Brownlow votes for that game???Comment

Oops, hat not helmet as Schneiderman's head gear - I knew we shouldn't have been recording The Bill at the same time!Comment

I also think that with our senior coach being an "insider" it is even more important that the reserves coaches are outsiders who haven't played with the team so recently. You bring more ideas from outside the club that way.
And much as I like Cressa and would love to have him still involved in the coach, I suspect he would struggle a bit to distance himself sufficiently from the likes of Maxfield and Williams to enable him to be our midfield coach.Comment

Doyle - giving him a run in reserves at this point is laughable. For 3 weeks he dominated that comp, and so it was definitely time to give him a go. A little patience is needed, plus whoever said that the short kicking play didnt give the tall slow forwards a chance got it absolutely right.
As for a gutsy win - how about a gutless effort. The number of times I saw our midfielders not go in hard at a contest was ridiculous.
Disappointing to see Crouch get absolutely destroyed by Chapman after last week's effort.Visit my eBay store -

we were lucky toget away with that one. i would say, in all honesty the better team lost. we,ll need to lift 110% to beat the Kangaroos next week.
Umpiring was nothing short of pathetic. What exactly do the Swans have to do to get a holding the ball decision.Comment

Do you actually KNOW that Cressa was not offered a position and didn't take it (e.g. runner)?
OR
Did you ever stop to consider that perhaps Cressa thought it best to get away from the Swans and experience a different footbal environment and culture and be better for it? E.g. John Worsfold.
In any case, we do not OWE past players a living after retirement. Under that scenario we could be creating jobs that are not there and have 10 assistant coaches!!
Seriously Diego you need to stop to consider both sides of the story."As a player he simply should not have been able to do the things he did. Leo was a 185cm, 88kg full-back and played on some of the biggest, fastest and best full-forwards of all time, and constantly beat them." Roos.
Leo Barry? you star! We'll miss ya, ''Leapin''.Comment

The umpiring was consistently inconsistent which leaves you with no confidence in how things will be called.

You could see that the red and white still flow very very strongly through Daryn Cresswell's veins. He looked very unconfortable wearing his Geelong stuff at the after-match. Didn't suit him either, hee hee.
The stuff coming out of his mouth at the after-match was music to my ears. He was saying how he misses life in Sydney "so much". Then he blurted out a comment that you could tell was very very sincere. He said he would love to be our senior coach one day. And intimated that he definitely wanted a deputy position at the SCG. So Ross Lyon, John Longmire, and Pter Jonas, watch out, OK!
Isn't it wonderful that after the days of Barry Mitchell, Dermott Brereton, Shannon Grant and other mercenaries from down south, that we are increasingly getting players who not only identify with the club up here, but wholeheartedly identify with playing and REPRESENTING Sydney! And who are more than prepared to call Sydney home as well!
The image of Cressa brandishing his guernsey after the Port final says a great deal. I didn't realise how passionate he remains about this club. I do now.
Daryn, I'd be more than happy to have you come HOME. But come home after a couple of years at another club where you can gather some experience.

Cressa may have signed a contract with Geelong before Malaxos decided to leave the Swans.
Even though it's depressing to see him down as an assistant coach for Geelong, it may be a really great thing in the end.
Cressa was known as a practical joker at the club. If he was given a job of AC with the Swans right after retiring, could he really seperate himself from the players? Look at what a break from the Swans did for Roos.
I would love to see Cressa back with the Swans... maybe in a couple of years.
As JF pointed out, it was clear at the AM last night that even though he is wearing navy and white the "red blood" is still running through him.Comment

Thanks Sharpie, I am glad to see someone feels the same as me on the midfielders.
How Jude Bolton could be put in our best is beyond me. Surely you look for players who go for 4 quarters and do something constructive.
J.Bolton had 8 kicks. At least 2 were to players on the lead (handpasses received) and fell at least 5 metres short. One he kicked into the man coming towards him (not a smother) which resulted in a goal and one out on the full in the last quarter that rebounded for a goal. He had 9 handpasses. How many hit the target?
I don't recall him getting a centre break or getting his hands on it at the centre bounce and around the ground he had real trouble getting where the ball was at.
Fosdike someone said was solid!! 9 kicks and a handpass for a midfielder. Too hard for Fozzie methinks.
Robbie says Bevan continues to impress. If his 2 efforts at kicking were impressive last night then I am dumbfounded by the meaning of impressive. Twice he ran out of the backline and hung onto the footy too long when well clear, only to be run down and lucky not to be pinged both times. Sure inexperience could be an explanation, but is he ready for the big time as many believe? Didn't have a tackle either.
Luke Ablett. Slow and not committed to the footy. Looks great on the end of a pass but doesn't make too many contests. Slows the side down when he gets it and dosn't seem to fit the running style.
If we have to rely on Willo and Kirk (who now should be used in the midfield) every week to get us out of a midfield hole, we will lose more than we win.Comment

Had to stay home last night and watch the coverage on 10. Did anyone else see it. Healy was commentating with another 10 bloke, can't remember his name.
It was clearly the worst call of the footy I have ever seen. Healy in particular seemed to be suffering from a case of a few too many chards at the Prezz's dinner.
They seemed insanely occupied with who was coming on and off the Swans bench. Were constantly confusing players names, big holes in commentry, weird camera angles, this was amateur hour at it's best.
We've all seen plenty of hometown commentry out of Adelaide and Perth but I guess for the Cats fans who I guess would've taken the game on Fox would be totally ropeable with the heavy focus on the Swans.
The one highlight was the the fact they could linger after the game with lots of shots from the dressing room
For those bagging Fosdike and Kennelly both were clearly injured, Fosdikes face in the changerooms after the game while getting his shoulder tape ripped off said it all, not to mention Kennelly's ribs.Comment

Again on the midfield. Buchanan had a real dip in the last quarter. Maybe he should be in the midfield mix. Surely it is not a given that Bolton and Fosdike must be there.Comment
