177th Senior AFL Match - Round 4, 2009 - Sydney vs Carlton, SCG. This is obviously out of date. I suppose I'll update it once I could be bothered sitting down with the fixture and working it out.... Des' Weblog
Baz's contribution was telling when we really needed it.
The consensus of the group that I was with was that Baz had his kicking boot on all night. It's just a shame that he didn't get more opportunities because I really think that if he gets loose in the next few weeks he could kick double figures.
As an aside, Kirky was my BOG for the night.

I too thought James and Kirk were the standout performers.
But because I've had some feedback via another channel, I thought it might be worthwhile clarifying what I'm trying to achieve with the POW column.
It's not really about the BOG performances - that's what the TLM is for and, in any case, these normally get lots of discussion here on the boards after the games. The column is more about an excuse to write something about the game to complement the regular match reports, focussing on a particular theme or incident. In many ways, who the actual player nominated is is barely relevant, though I do try hard to find someone who made a telling contribution, even if he wasn't the matchwinner.

I can assure you it was pretty hard this week!
I had absolutely no doubt what you try to achieve with the POW because finding that special contribution is difficult (especially in a rather average performance like Sat night) but an art in itself.
Baz was the right choice!

I'm comfortable with the choice of Bazza, as player of the week. I don't think Lizz is diminishing the efforts of Kirk, whom I had as BOG, the Irishman or the cabbage patvch kids...who ALL contributed... It's just that a Player of the Week, could be one who puts in a marquee performance when it matters, or does something inspiring and team-lifting... it could just as easily be the guy who's BOG.
"Davis...Davis has kicked 2...he snaps from 40...dont tell me, dont tell me, hes kicked a goal....unbelievable stuff from Nick Davis, can you believe this, he's kicked 3 final quarter goals and Swans are within 3 points..."
