Was for a year for work until earlier this year... back in Syd. Will update my location.
In any case, totally irrelevant to my points.

Leo Barry? you star! We'll miss ya, ''Leapin''.

This sums up precisely why this is the fault of both the AFL and the Swans. The AFL for not giving us the request, but also the Swans for making it their LOWEST PRIORITY request. Apparently, it's more important that we play at home in round 2 and play Melbourne on a Saturday night than getting six games in Melbourne.
You have not worked in sales I would suggest Charlie If that was Sydneys request than they would hardly expect to get it, your first offer is never your final or what your expecting to get.
I should probably save myself some time and go back and copy & paste what I said last time!
I think we should play more games in Melbourne, if it means less trips to Brisbane/Adelaide/Perth. However, I can't see that being given to us. There is a reasonable chance that we will see 6 next year, but I can't see where #7 is going to come from. The AFL's position is easy to guess. They will want to play Melbourne club against Melbourne club to maximise attendences, with the "interstaters" playing each other the most.
The Dogs game could move back to Melbourne - that is #6. However, I think we stand very little chance of playing North in Melbourne as long as they want to play games in Canberra. As long as they do, we will be scheduled to play there.
There you have it. That's what I think will happen, it's not what I WANT, but that's what will happen.
177th Senior AFL Match - Round 4, 2009 - Sydney vs Carlton, SCG. This is obviously out of date. I suppose I'll update it once I could be bothered sitting down with the fixture and working it out.... Des' Weblog

I was only joking
I agree that there should be at least 3 H&A games played in Canberra (I would like to see maybe one more thrown in over the next few years) plus more pre-season games.
I knew him as a gentle young man, I cannot say for sure the reasons for his decline

My suggestion is Canberra's game of last weekend should be in Melbourne.
That would at least give Melbourne 1 more game for our supporters - it was very obvious to me and to all I am sure - the Kangaroos have virtually nil support in Canberra of the 14898 at the most only 898 were for North Melbourne.
The venue is useless - a rabble to get in and out of through dirt tracks. Couldn't move once you had your seat in Bay 25 - no room to walk past the person beside you.
As for the telecast at the game - absolutely crap. Couldn't follow game - about time AFL woke up and stopped propping up North Melbourne and got rid of them as they are sponges and bludgers.

How long ago did Souths move to Sydney? Have you been hanging on to this for that long? Are you so pissed off this team came up here and took our hearts and breath away? Aren't you happy so many more people are into them that they have been kept alive? Or would you have preferred your beloved team to die completely?
In the words of some song or another,
GET OVER IT!!!!!!!!
I live in regional NSW and see them once a year, doesn't stop my passion and you don't see me whingeing my arse off in this forum.
May I suggest that if this is such an issue for you, that you take up another hobby as well as footy to bang your gums over, such as stamp collecting
Spoken like a true dick. Thanks for reinforcing the exact points that Robbieando posted previously.
If u don't believe me, I will knock your bloody teeth out and not pay you a cent.

It's what I think would happen too Des. And it would make this fledgling sandgroper happy to see that happen. 6 home and away games in Melb per year is not a lot to ask for and really should be emphasised greatly.

Isn't the whole point of a forum to debate?
But besides that, as other people have mentioned, as long as the Kangaroos request 3 games at Manuka, I think ours will be one of them. The best chance that Melbourne have of the extra game is the Bulldogs one, and while I'd prefer to see 12 games instead of 11 in Sydney, I don't think I really understand the South Melbourne/Sydney connections in their entirety and it maybe it would be a good thing to play that game in Melbourne (Robbieando's gone and made me feel bad for him and fellows South Melbourners).
Still, the more I get to see my team play the better. Unfortunately, more games for Sydney and more games for Melbourne seem to be mutually exclusive events ATM, which is a damn shame.
There is no obligation to play the Roos in Canberra. It's as simple as that... they didn't request it. I don't see why anybody can argue that it is in the interests of the Swans - and in turn AFL - to play a game in a city with the sole purpose of portraying that city as viable for AFL, when it clearly isn't. The fact that they can't get 14,000 to a game without trucking in loads of Sydney people should show that. Meanwhile, membership is falling in Victoria, because there's no value in it. Fans are still going to games, but their money is going into the pockets of Essendon, Carlton, Geelong, Melbourne and Richmond. Not Sydney.
We (Melbourne based fans) are losing out for a publicity exercise. As a result, membership here has decreased. Revenue for the Swans has decreased. Because of the Manuka publicity exercise, the Sydney Football Club is losing money.
But that's alright, isn't it? Because we might pick up a handful of fans in regional NSW (or is that the ACT?), its worth pissing 15,000 fans off.
Excuse me while I at that logic.
FACT: The Canberra game is doing more harm than good to the Sydney Football Club, which should therefore oppose it, and request not to play it.

Charlie, I am 99% sure that the revenue from Melbourne memberships goes to the clubs we play in Melbourne. I lived in Melbourne a few years ago and asked about this, and was told by the office that the club pays the Melb based team the GA price for each members who turns up. I think this revenue thing is a myth.
I decided then I was just better off buying through T7 and getting a better seat

You seem to be struggling to comprehend that the Canberra match is a Roos' home game and thus the Swans have little say in it. It is completely logical for the AFL and the Kangaroos to fixture the Swans to play one of the Canberra matches for as long as the Roos want to play there, simply because that crowd will probably be at least 50% higher than any other Manuka crowd this year.
The Canberra game is irrelevant to your argument.
The Bulldogs game is not irrelevant because it involves the Swans making a payment to the Dogs. They are therefore able to influence this fixture. This is the one that needs to change to give you what you want, and indications are that you will get your wish next year.

We're the younger generation.
Robbie's family were long term fans. My parents had nothing to do with AFL until I was a kid. Dad chose the side that had the same colours as St George RLC. We became Swans fans... or I did, and dad has an interest mainly from taking me to games.
Robbie, therefore, has a South Melbourne history. I don't. I am, however, very conscious of it from knowing a lot of South fans.

That is a naive comment.
Canberra is an AFL heartland, producing players like James Hird and Aaron Hamill. Sure having their own AFL club may never be viable, but why should the AFL turn its back on Canberra just because its not in the interests of the Swans?
I think you will find most of the crowd last weekend were locals.
Sydney is the most supported club in Canberra, so it makes sense for the AFL to schedule us their once a year, plus it a good gesture to the Canberra AFL supporters.
We shouldn't lose sight of the big picture and that's promoting the game to all parts of the country.
"As everyone knows our style of football is defensive and unattractive, and as such I have completely forgotten how to mark or kick over the years" - Brett Kirk
I was born the year of the move, but I didn't start supporting the club until 1988 when I was introduced to the great game of Aussie Rules Football. While I don't personally know what the move was like, I know enough about the move though my studies on the clubs history, along with talking about it with my father and other Swans fans I know who went though it. Its a complex issue and one that would confuse many who don't know the background to things.
I will not and cannot however support Charlie in his opposition to the Canberra game because I believe it does serve a purpose. Also I know that as a club we might be against it, but its up to North where we play them. The Bulldogs game is my problem and the sooner we stop paying them to play it in Sydney (which some on here say is next season) the better. Also unlike Charlie, I'm not asking for 7 matches (though I would love 7), I'm just asking for a 6th game so we are in line with the Brisbane Lions who also play an away home in their home state.
My ideal split of Swans matches would be, 12 in Sydney and Canberra, 6 in Melbourne and 4 in Adelaide, Perth and Brisbane. Whats so hard about that split I ask.
