Swans not likely to risk O'Loughlin

Swans not likely to risk O'Loughlin

Sydney Swans star forward Michael O?Loughlin appears unlikely to play against the Demons on Saturday night at Telstra Stadium.

The 27-year-old was selected to play against the Kangaroos last Sunday in Canberra but experienced nerve pain in his right hamstring during a final training run and was immediately ruled out.

The condition settled down during the week but coach Paul Roos remains hesitant about risking his goal-kicking maestro.

?I am guided by Mick and the medical staff, but at this stage we haven?t picked him in the team,? Roos said.

?Just to be sure in his own mind? the last thing we want to do is make him tear a hamstring and he is out for another three or four or five.

?I think if we rule him out this week it gives him a good opportunity to do a bit more training do a bit more rehab and have a full week of training next week and to go into next week a bit better prepared.?

Sydney doctor, Nathan Gibbs, remains hopeful about the two-time All-Australian?s condition, but knows history will not be on his side and it may have to be managed.

?It?s been there for two or three weeks now and hopefully it will go away and not come back,? Gibbs said.

?But people who do get this type of nerve pain in their hamstring are more likely to get it again and have recurrences.?

Nick Davis, another who missed the Kangaroos match after pulling up sore from the right hip flexor he strained in round one, will train with the team on Wednesday night at Telstra Stadium. If all goes well he should be on track to return.

Seriously though, Michael O?Loughlin is a decent player. I reckon that, if fit, he could probably warrant a place in the 22.
I knew him as a gentle young man, I cannot say for sure the reasons for his decline
We watched him fade before our very eyes, and years before his time

          Are you being serious, stellation??
I gather your being sarcastic anout Magic deserving a spot in the 22. He is a star and can win a game off his own boot even when his only 70% fit. He's done it before. Look at how he played against the Roys at the scg last year. Only 80% it too, and absolutely carved it up!

Very good Charlie. Although I'm sure someone will take offence to it

There is no way known that O'Loughlin at the moment wouldn't be considered to be in the 22 if fully fit. He's an absolute star!

I'm really concerned about O'Loughlin, probably more about the impact of his injuries on the man himself than the team. Such a talent, it really appears that he is now going to be a week to week proposition for the rest of his career. Its hard to believe he's just turned 27 and is in his tenth season.

Our forward line continues to function well without him, and with Saddo now a genuine option up forward, coupled with the form of Davis and O'Keefe, as well as the option of sticking Doyle in the GS, we are in reasonable shape.

I just wonder what the future holds for him. Is probably in our top 3 earners, a position that would be questionable if his run of misfortune continues.

He played one game up forward, this doesnt make him a genuine forward.

I agree with your Micky O comments though.

O'Loughlin has been here before so I hope he will be able to overcome his woes better than most.

Fixter would be in the same boat, but they should both be able to look at Heath James and think to themselves that it could be worse and they can get over it.

Sorry, I just presumed beacuse you put the 'with Saddo now a genuine option up forward' in quotes, that you were talking about that.

Afraid I didn't guess that you were talking about the part you didn't quote.

                              My bad.
