Why would he be picked up by a key defender? If so, that would open it up for the other forwards. Imagine playing your third or fourth string defender on Mick!!!

Schnider- Best small defender
Mick - Requires a high quality defender
Davis -
Saddo - 2nd tall defender

See the point, backlines will start to be running out of options. Davis and ROK would have the weaker defenders and with Doyle thrown down there occassionally it will be chaos.

A fully fit Micky is the nightmare match up for the opposition.
.A second defender is a key defender in my book Leppitsch/Michael, Fletcher/Lucas etc.
If Saddo is to play at ff then he should be a decoy,take a good defender out of the play and let Micky go one on one.

Saddo is too weak to be a key backman.He isn't strong enough to be a key forward..A decent backman will monster him.
He played as a third forward against the Kangas.The Kangas backmen were getting traumatised by Barry and Goodes so Saddo was ignored.
I think the Swans are the ones running out of options for Saddo.

I think you are really on to something here, Captain.

Wouldn't have thought it a few weeks ago but Saddo at full forward has a lot going for it.....ie he loves to take a grab rather than punch and even if he doesn't mark his opponent will only punch so Saddo won't look like a dill. Hall and Micky are so good on the ground that with the extra tall target of Saddington we will really test any defence (assuming there are enough inside fifties). Saddo is a much better shot for goal than Doyle and if played at FF would demand the 2nd tall defender leaving Micky and Pebbles on the 3rd and 4th. I mean Fletcher is not going to follow Micky out into the pockets, for example. Mmmmm. That means they would have to sacrifice play an underdone Henneman as a key defender....nope...or remove Bolton or McPhee from their preferred positions on Goodes or the wing or CHF.

how so? as a key forward you dictate the terms to your defender, while he isnt in the mould of an alastair lynch, he is in the mould of a rawlings...

if i were to pick a FF for the swans it wouldnt be a lynch, our gameplan dictates that we kick to a target and not a contest... where brisbane's gameplan is mainly to a contest and not a target...

this is why hall is such a good player for us as he provides a very fast, agile - for his size - target, and when the ball is rarely bombed into the air he can hold his own

saddington at FF can provide a tall target - which is what the gameplan and roosy dictates - while he would be mauled by a leppitsch if the ball was bombed into the air... however this is where saddington could dictate terms and he would also leave a leppitsch for dead on the lead...

Trouble is that Roos plays him at FF once, he succeeds and then on Sat night he plays him everywhere but. I'm confused as to why he is not played there and given a proper crack.

He would carve up the second defender of most teams and those such as Leppitsch he would make them more accountable reducing their creativity and opening up Mick, ROK, Davis etc. Throw Doyle down there and the opposition would stuggle.

I think the reason Roosy is so reluctant to move him into the forward line full time is the fact we still need him down back, and he is much more useful to the team as a defender.
We simply can't afford to lose his height in the backline. Unfortunately LRT is not the answer at this stage of his career.
Also, if a forward line including Hall, O'Loughlin, Davis, ROK and Schneider (with Ball or Doyle popping up every now and then) can't do the job then it's hard to see how Saddo would.
If Saddo can't measure up as a key defender then there probably isn't room for him in the 22.

i'm liking the discussion on fantasy forward lines, but they are all useless if the midfield doesn't create some sort of supply. i thought the forwards played well on saturday, when they actually got delivery. all this focus on saddo also takes attention away from the fact that craig bolton had a shocker on the weekend. if powell is going to be given a chance, it's bolton who should make way. (IMHO)

What a load of crap.

Bolton is a gun and would easily be our premier defender after Schauble. Even then, he is far more skilled that Schauble.

Bolton may have had a quite game on sat night but he has been a star last season and most of this season. What more does a guy have to do to impress you????

Beat me to it Nick. And I've watched the tape of the game a couple of times and can't see where Holland's 3 possessions came. The only one I can recall is a jabbed kick near the end of the game that rolled towards the goal only to be picked up and cleared by C Bolton.

If Bolton makes way for anyone, I'll hand me membership card back and send a legal letter for the refund. Because that would just a breach of the promise to be competitive.

Its Powell or Saddington in my opinion. I am just sorry that Powelly isn't shinning as brightly in the ressies as I would like.

Here's an idea that some will think amounts to blasphemy. It took until last night for me to get around to watching the tape of the game after being there on the night but the tape reinforced my initial impression. Yes LRT and Saddo had bad games but Tadhg really had a shocker! If anyone looks like needing a run in the 2nds it's Tadhg. Why has he been so slow and uncertain in the past two games? He's either not match fit or is really suffering from the blues at present.

He did have a knee operation.He probably would have been nervous about the surface at Telstra Stadium
I do agree he hasn't been at his best.
