yeah, it was the emotion of the moment that caused me to throw those things forward and i've got to say they weren't that special.
god help me, i'm a tragic optimist. i can't shake the nagging thoughts that we're still in the top eight, we've got positive percentage, a young talented list with a few keys to return, some top players who may return to form and a good coach.
what really sucks is our attitude.
then again, i think it would be worth trying 15-16 players on field so what would i know

On that note, I could have sworn that the Richmond spitter was sitting a few rows in front of me. Him or his doppleganger. In the end though I decided the guy was to well behaved to have been the spitter.

LOL - not sure if you meant it, but at least that made me laugh and I don't really know why!!

That's right. We have a reasonable list, but it's hard to tell whether we were too optimistic after last year or whether it is simply that they are not putting in the effort they need.

Get stuffed. I'm not that pathetic as to resort to such foul behaviour, and I find it offensive that you would liken me to that filthy Richmond slob. But there is nothing wrong with letting those blokes know that we will not accept what they served up today by booing. If it was just one performance, then you give the benefit of the doubt, but it is now week after week. It is weak.
Get off your high horse and stop being so precious about a bunch of highly paid, underperforming bogans.
Would you tolerate employees of a company that you own shares in being half-assed, leading to poor performance? There are plenty of other analogies that could be used to describe the same scenario.

Well, I don't know if I'd say that our season is over. I expect the players to fight to the very end, and I KNOW we can still turn in some very good performances, given the talent we have in the list.
However. We are definitely in a lot of trouble right now. Too many passengers in the team, and the bottom line is that we are not playing good football. Hell, we're not even playing average football. We had one good quarter against Melbourne, one good quarter against Essendon, and most of the rest has been rubbish.

Quite right. You work your standard 40 hours (or whatever, amend as necessary) a week, and you get paid. For that payment, your employers expect you to perform to standard. It's quite simple.
The players need to be held accountable, if praise is due, pay it. If sprays are due, pay them too.
177th Senior AFL Match - Round 4, 2009 - Sydney vs Carlton, SCG. This is obviously out of date. I suppose I'll update it once I could be bothered sitting down with the fixture and working it out.... Des' Weblog

good on you sharpie for sticking up for yourself. i've never been pushed to leave before the game's end i think with the compounding motivations i may well have succumbed to temptation today (i shamefully didn't make it)

One thing particularly disappointing about where we are is I think this is one of the weakest AFL competitions I have seen in a while.
Brisbane and St Kilda are obviously the form teams and have a lot of talent at their disposal.
Melbourne is also travelling very nicely, however I don't view them as a top 4 team in a normal season.
After that there are Port, Freo and Essendon who all look okay, but not particularly outstanding. In particular I don't think Essendon has really proved itself yet; wins against struggling teams - WCE, Carlton, Collingwood, Sydney, Bulldogs - does not make them a serious contender yet.
After that come the next 10 teams, all of which have played some pretty ordinary football so far this year.
I didn't think we would be top 4 at the beginning of the year, however if I had known how ordinary the rest of the competition was going to be (but not knowing how we would play) then I would have expected us to be top 4. This year appears that it was a real chance for us to place ourselves in that leading category but we are throwing it away.
Pre-season, what I was hoping, and expecting, to see this season was a gradual improvement and some good football, which would set us up nicely for the following year. I pretty much haven't seen any indication of this - in fact, quite the opposite!!

No, we play WCE @ Subi next week. So we'll be 3-5 and out of the top8 on our current form.
Then the three home games. We've gone 1-2 this year at home. Say we do the same for those, we'll be 4-7 at the halfway mark. Hawthorn was our bogey team last year, and the Bulldogs havent been that bad this year. We wont beat the Saints.
Season over? Probably, unless we can turn it around real quick. Thats what makes this game against Richmond so disappointing. Its not only the 4 points, but also the confidence it takes away from future, winnable games.

We're on 3-4. The only reason we've actually managed to be 7th is the rest of the competition is really quite crap.
Next week we have WCE at Subi, which we are unlikely to win based on form.
The week after that Hawthorn at the SCG, which we should win given Hawthorn's run, but Hawthorn often seem to find form when playing us.
The week after that is at the SCG again, this time against the Bulldogs. We probably should win that, but then again, we said the same thing against Richmond.
The week after that is St Kilda at the SCG, and a pretty amazing form reversal will be needed for us to win that.
After that is Port at AAMI, where we could probably struggle too.
Based on form, we might be 5-7 at the halfway mark. That's not a great position to be in, particularly when our run home isn't exactly a walk in the park.
