i couldn't agree more. i only caught the swans bug in 1999 AND i've only got double digit posts to this forum, but ask my girlfriend, my family, he family and anyone else that knows me and they think i'm worrying obsessed about the swans.

still learning heaps about this game every match too.
then again, i think it would be worth trying 15-16 players on field so what would i know

No, 2 positives. Schauble will come back at some point too.
I knew him as a gentle young man, I cannot say for sure the reasons for his decline
We watched him fade before our very eyes, and years before his time

All the personals aside, I agree with NMW in that we have slipped badly after what looked like a promising start to the season.

As that famous person said "I am as mad as hell and I am not going to take it any more".

Today was nothing but appalling. There was absolutely nothing we can take away from this game that is remotely positive.

While I agree the time you have followed a side has nothing to do with any argument, I would like to point out a little bit of history which will explain why I am as mad as hell.

I have seriously followed this club for 40 years.

My first taste of success was in 1970 when we made the four. A truly exciting experience. Next year I think we finished last. Then poor and less than mediocre football.

We were woeful until 1977 when we again made the four. But alas mediocrity again took over and our next taste of excitement was the mid 80's for a couple of years. The the mediocrity disease took hold again until 1996.

In 1996 we almost did the impossible. But again mediocrity took over and we slowly headed towards the inevitable abbys again.

So around rolls 2003 and out of the blue we have a sensational year, join the evolution they said. I was one of those who waxed lyrical about our chances early on last season. At last we looked like we were headed for a period of sustained excitement and success. But no, if today is any indication, we have turned the clock back 2 years and are going backwards at 100 miles an hour.

What we saw today was mediocrity at it's best. Very few of those that stepped out today have the right to put their hands out for this week's pay. Some are paid way over the odds for what they give.

And what I saw was utter garbage by players who are now doing these dumb things as Maxfield called it, week in week out, without any change in habit, style, commitment or accountability, and they are getting away with it.

That's why I am as mad as hell, and will continue to be until this bloody MEDIOCRITY and the culprits are given their marching orders. Because if it continues then history tells us it will be at least until 2010 until we are any good again.

Is expecting just 1 flag in my life time asking too much?

I am normally a super optimist but geez right now I don't know that I have ever been more disappointed with a performance in my life. I am bloody hurting.

I wouldn't hang my hat on this. I have a hunch that Schaubs will be this year's Fixter (2003) or Ball (2002). Even if he does get his body right he will be well out of touch and is unlikely to play his traditional role in the backline with any aplomb until deep into the second half of the season.

I think we have to view any meaningful contribution from Schaubs as a bonus if it happens, rather than something to expect.

"I'm as mad as hell and I'm not going to take this anymore" uttered by peter finch in "Network" (mid '70s)

paraphrased recently in "out of sight" with george clooney saying "i'm mad as hell and i ain't gonna take any more of your @@@@"

i think you make a good point, but schauble's strength has always been his brain over his athleticism. he should still have the strength in the upper body to take on the mountains of the competition. moreso than any of the reeds, midgets and teenagers we currently have in the backs.
