With regards to righting Rogers off after only 2 games, I remember thinking the same thing about Heuskes many years ago, he went on to become a great backman (tho' an idiot).
James and Rogers not up to it

Give them a chance to learn their trade when Schauble returns. When he is back they will not only get to learn their craft on the next forward down, they will be able to learn a hell of a lot from just being on the same ground as him. They have been thrown in the deep end (James in particular) without that leadership down the back to be able to help them learn how to read the game.I knew him as a gentle young man, I cannot say for sure the reasons for his decline
We watched him fade before our very eyes, and years before his timeComment

I think too many people are making unfair judgements of both players. I can't believe though that Rogers is copping it after his first full match. Sure yesterday he wasn't as good as some made him out to be, but to judge him on that performance alone is unfair on him. What both James and Rogers need is Schauble back in the team, so we can see them on players they would normally play on with Schauble in the team and of course it goes without saying the midfield NEEDS to apply more pressure to help out the defence more offen.
Young players always cop if they make a few mistakes, yet only a few weeks ago some of you were saying that James was the answer to full back and going further back when he got promoted back onto the senior list last season the same calls were made. Lets judge these players when they have played a few games under better circumstances.Once was, now elsewhereComment

It's only early days, but having a clanger tally equal to his total possessions is not a good sign.
Kennelly - 4 Clangers
Barry - 2 Clangers
C.Bolton - 2 Clangers
Rogers - 1 Clanger
James - 1 Clanger
Now if you were to base all your judgements on players on the clanger stat alone, then how come we haven't heard a bad word about Bolton, Barry and Kennelly yet over yesterday's lost, when they all had more clangers than Rogers and James combined?
Why haven't we heard anything about the Swans player who was suppose to be on Phil Matera and allowed him to kick 5 goals?
Why haven't we heard a thing about the midfields lack of support or pressure across half back?
How come we haven't heard a thing about the Eagles kicking more goals in open play than from marks or free kicks?
How come we haven't heard about the Eagles talls only kicking 5 goals all match, of which 3 came in the first quarter?
How come looking at the above facts carefully, Rogers and James just might not be the ones who should be coping the blame?
How come on this site, we can only blame rookies and never the so called star players?Once was, now elsewhereComment

James is doing fine; not supertall but tall enough. And the sort of body that will bulk up. He is pretty quick (I agree with Penga's comments above) and he is one very determined customer. I hope he just keeps on developing.
Rogers? Way too early to tell. Come back at the end of the season. He reminds him of the guys, close-set, slow, and never rattled, who were play-makers on the team. (John Updike, seeing Josh Kennedy in a crystal ball)Comment

We're very competitive. But for a handful of key contests a game we're falling a little short.
During a game we get a couple of goal lead, then rather than pull away to put the game in our keeping, we squander it in 10 minutes.
During a game we play catch-up, but never pull ahead, We we get within a goal or two, the other side puts the hammer down and pulls away again. They control the game, not us.
A few games have been close losses, but we were never in them.
What we really need is our core group of leaders to keep on the park for a run of games without injury...and this just isn't happening for us this year.Comment

Kennelly - 4 Clangers
Barry - 2 Clangers
C.Bolton - 2 Clangers
I can't believe that people are having a go at a young pup like Rogers so early. It is people like Craig Bolton and Jason Saddington who inexplicably sent footies out of bounds (on the full) in the last quarter when we had the E-Girls at our mercy.
Guys, we very very nearly had them. It was only the emotion of Jakovich's retirement and so inexplicable skill-errors/decision making when we had the ball that did not have the 4 points in the Swans hands.
Don't under-estimate the immense sentiment of Jakovich's retirement. It was THE story in WA this weekend! The crowd stood for well over 2 minutes when he had that final shot, chanting "Jako Jako". The Eagles, normally a horrible last quarter team, did enough to win, little more. Had there not been such emotion about Jakovich I reckon we nearly could have got em.

Never kicking the thing and running around like a headless chook most of the time, I agreed with Des at the after-match that a spell in Canberra looks to be his best option. Constantly playing him when he is obviously suffering from his leg injury in going to do nobody any favours.C'mon Chels!Comment

You look at Willo, Mathews and Kennelly, all got over 18 possessions (26, 21 and 18) and only Mathews didn't record a clanger. Possessions really mean little, if most of them are of little help to the team.Once was, now elsewhereComment

Willo had only 2 clangers from 26 possesions and the most Inside 50s and 6 clearances.Captain Logic is not steering this tugboat.

Willo's disposal has been appalling all year. His kicking for goal has been ordinary as well. Don't care how many clangers he had, because IMO they do no tell the full story.Bloods
