    Goodes to play....

    Roos insists Goodes will play
    4:13:37 PM Fri 21 May, 2004
    Sportal
Sydney coach Paul Roos has declared that Brownlow Medallist Adam Goodes will play against Hawthorn at the SCG on Sunday.

Goodes, who tore his posterior cruciate ligament in a ruck contest against West Coast?s Dean Cox last weekend, managed to get through Friday?s training session without any problems.

Roos said would have no hesitation in playing Goodes as the dynamic Swan was able to accelerate and jump without any problems.

?We?ll play him for sure,? Roos said on Friday.

Roos said Goodes would not be playing in the ruck ? after stating earlier in the week that he would never play in that position again ? indicating that he would slot back up forward or spend time in the midfield.

He added that long-term he sees Goodes switching between centre half-forward and centre half-back.

CHB. Always felt this was the LT spot for him. Remember years ago G Healy saying to try him at FB. But CHB would be ideal.

tasty. i wonder if he will play the full game? i know he spends a little bit of time on the bench usually, but i bet if we're up by a bit at 3 qt. time he'll rest.

      Here's hoping for that scenario

Please, crumbing around the ruck. That's where other teams can't match him for speed and strength. Not waiting for the ball to arrive in the forwards.

What do people think of giving Goodes a roving role as CHB a bit like Leppich who is the general of the Lions backline.

It'd be great. But his never played there before. Hope he's given some time.

Goodesy's strength now is his agility and stamina and the fact its so hard to match up on him due to those factors combined with his size.

Right now, IMHO, his foot skills aren't consistently good enough to do a job of a Leppitsch/Chris Johnson of having a free regin across halfback to push forward and set things up for the forwards on the rebound out of defence.

I'd been trying to promote this idea for the last few weeks -- since the Richo mauling -- with absolutely no success whatsoever.

Arguments ranged from "Goodes needs to play in the middle" to "Goodes' value as the hardest match-up is gone if he's matching-up someone else" to "Eade tried Goodes in defence and it didn't work" to simply "Goodes is too unaccountable to play in defence".

I don't mind differing opinions but I more or less gave up after one thread took a "aboriginals don't make good defenders" turn. You just can't argue against that sort of logic!

In total agreeance with you Bart.

But what is the 'LT spot'?

I reckon he might play next to Mick at FF - give Barry a run up the ground a bit.

I will be sliiiiiiightly nervous the first time he goes near the ball.

Hope the medicos know what they are doing.

                          Long-term spot/position.

I reckon goodes did pretty well today in the back line. But hes definitely not suited to smaller targets. He is more used to marking than spoiling so it was probably a new thing to him.

I reckon the idea of switching between the half forward and half back line is a good idea for him. Theres so many places where he can play.
Using hypothesis testing via confidence intervals:
Nick Davis mark inside 50 = goal
