    Bulldogs game

I know we are all thinking about how we'll be feeling in a fortnight after the Saints game but there's a game before that. This is a new thread to discuss that. Last year the Doggies were rated as the best team to ever wooden spoon. This year they have played okay but kicked very inaccurately.

It was aaid last week that they just aren't accountable and for professional sportspeople that just isn't acceptable. (Well it was for Anna Kournikova but none of the Doggies look like her.)

How do we contain them - or don't we bother and just go for broke and let the highest scoring team win (as they so often do)?

In terms of the whole season, beating the Saints would be nice but if we don't beat the Doggies first we'd just be listed as quaint oddities that can pull a rabbit out of our hats but can't string it together. Beat the Doggies but not the Saints and we're just in for a long haul with little chance of a happy ending.

How do we beat the Doggies? (Remember, it's their home game!)

If it is true that the Bulldogs are not accountable, doesnt that suit us? Teams have shut us down by playing man on man all over the ground to stop our run out of defence. If they are not going to man us up, then surely this means we will kill them on the rebound.

Wouldnt be surprised if we lost to them. Theyre a good team.
We had the aid of the Subi curse last year when we played them.

        Home game... Scmhome game

I'm not great with tactics, but I guess... just hard at the ball, lots of tackeling, lots of goals, and lots of pressure in OUR defence.

One thing you don't do against the Dog's is go for a shoot out, otherwise we are buggered (as long as they kick straight). They have a heap of talented slightly built players that like to run forward of the ball and will cut us to pieces if we allow them to do that this week.

Key for us is to go man on man, work hard getting back to help our defenders out and block up the space, choke em with the ball then try and hit them on the break, where there defence is undersized and not as good as their midfield.

slightly built players ehh? Lets rough em up! They shouldnt be able to contain our forward line, so like always, its a matter of negating their midfield. Same story for West Coast, Hawthorn... and we need to freakin kick straight! It could be a case of the the yips vs the yippies.

They do have Chris Grant, who is probably a class above any defender that Bazza has had to face in recent weeks, including Dustin Fletcher who probably struggled with being drawn further up the ground than he likes.

That means that O'Loughlin and O'Keefe will need to work very hard to create alternative avenues to goal.

If the Richmond game was anything to go by, the Dog's coaching staff will put Koops on Bazza and Grant on Buchanan!

                    Danger Danger Danger Game

Yes it is correct this is going to be a very hard game to win.

We are going to get smashed in the midfield -

The Bulldogs have the number 1 and 2 players in the league for Centre Breaks.

The Bulldogs have the number 4 and 5 players in the league for Clearances.

Number 3 possesion winner in the league.

They have an A grade marking forward in Rawlings.

                    A grade defender in Grant.

And Rohan Smith who is better than Leo Barry and is ranked 3rd in the league for rebounds.

Not too mention some good quality youngsters around them e.g Cooney

Senior players which have stepped Robbins and Eagleton.

I will be happy to win this game as I believe we will be up against it.

Who's going to stop Darcy when he goes forward?

Just an interesting stat from the Dogs-Blues game last weekend. The two teams kicked 28 goals in the first 3 quarters but neither team kicked a goal in the last.

(Apparently, if you go back to 1991 the Blues scored their only goal against the Dogs in the last minute of play.)

Bazza has the pace and manoeuvrability to beat Grant, no worries there.

Comparing those two is innapropriate, Leo's successfully takes on both runners and even key forwards (eg Croad last week) something Smith couldn't better, compare him instead with Tadgh.
