    Email from Melb office....

    Swans Supporters

    Swans v Western Bulldogs

    Saturday Night 29th May

    Live on Foxtel 7pm

All Swans supporters are invited to watch the Swans v Bulldogs match at one of two locations -

    South Melbourne and Rye.
    I have a question.

Should I consider being able to view the Swans games as part of my Victorian Membership?

You see this makes 4 out of 10 games so far that I can't watch on my TV.
Is that unreasonable for me to ask to not have to pay not only for Fox Footy, but also for the rest of Foxtel just to see a few games?

You know what really pisses me off, is that there is no incentive to buy a membership anyway.
Most games in Melbourne are shown delayed on TV.

So I buy a membership to travel out in the cold to see a game which is on TV, and the games I can't get to without flying or getting pay tv I can't see.

That, for me, is the most ****ed up thing about being a Melb based Swans supporter.

I have been bemused by this myself for the last couple of years.

I don't see the logic. Don't they want to get people thru the gate more than sit at home at watch a delayed telecast???

And don't forget that this particular match is a dogs HOME game, so there supporters have been doubly shafted.

Despite what the AFL tell you, the TV contract money is the life blood of the game not club membership.

Therefore, we end up with stupid situations like this.

Don't forget that the Geelong game will be televised live into Melbourne. So let's see, drive an hour down the road and pay an extra $20.00 to reserve a seat (probabliy in the rain) or stay at home and watch the game live ?

I know wich one sounds better, but hey I am mad enough to do it for some strange reason.

Also Rye is an awfully long was to go to watch a game. From my location, North of Melbourne, I think Sydney is closer!!

What makes matters even worse is that Geelong this season has a capacity of only 22,000 while they build a new Grandstand, thus meaning that what tickets that were left for Swans members normally after the Cats members got theirs is even less than in past years. I have heard the most tickets our members will have access to is 2000 and already at least 150 of those are given to the Cheer Squad.

Guys - let's focus on getting something DONE.

If 1 person sends an e-mail to Morwood, nothing happens.

If 10 of us all send an e-mail along the same lines, all asking for the e-mail to be forwarded on to Baron-Hay or Colless or whoever is the most important person at the club, the club, at the very least, can't tell us that they don't hear us.

Are we going to stick up for ourselves and remind these people that this is OUR club too, or not?

                Robbie,

What's the deal with ticketing with the cheersquad??

Do we have to pay anything or we just rock up on the day, guarenteed a seat with no charge ? Or we have to book a seat even though we are in the cheersquad still?

Haven't heard anything so far this year, but in past years when we have played in Geelong, Cheer sqaud members have had to pick up a ticket at the Melbourne Office during the week before. This is the same as what has happened in the last couple of years when we have played Essendon at Docklands.
Sydney based cheer sqaud members would be wise to contact [email protected]

Pretty much what Cher said is the case. Closer to the game you'll be sent a letter telling how to get the tickets. As Cher said if previous trips to Geelong are anything to go by it won't cost extra and all you'll have to do is ring up the club on the date shown and collect the tickets during the week leading up for the match.

haha, I don't have to be angry to miss the Geelong game.

Even if it wasn't televised, I doubt I would make the trip.

Some may say that I am not passionate enough a supporter or the like, and that's fine, but I am supporting the club in paying for my place in my membership price.

As for doing something proactive about having things changed, I am now simply trying to make people aware of what we face here and maybe to stir some Vic supporters up enough to do something at the end of the season.

I have contacted both the AFL and teh Swans with various concerns in the past and have always recieved replied from both organisations.

At the end of the season I will do the same again, or be part of something organised.
Although I generally believe that it is far more productive to individuals to make contact rather than petitions etc.

Anyway, I shall go out, drink the night away, and hear the result in the morning

As I have said in another thread, I will post details of the date submissions are due for next years draw to the AFL, along with some details on who we can contact as a group to voice our concerns over the lack of games in Melbourne.

As Charlie has pointed out, if we can at least get 20 or 30 people on this board willing to contribute to an open letter signed by all expressing our concerns over the lack of games it may have an influence come submission time.

I just thought of something, what do you think it would cost to take out a page of advertising on the Swans magazine for an open letter to the club re Melbourne games?

Especially if each person sends a letter.

A letter is one thing. A stack of letters is quite another.
