I reckon LIZZ and SHARPIE have it about right. My impression all night was that Grant was constantly going to ground and trying to use Barry's body size against him to glean frees.

Barry and Grant were jostling moments before Grant went down, but nothing more untoward than any of those hundred or so elbow wars you see between two players every round.

After the incident, Barry gave Grant a bit of a verbal, and the two of them bumped chests a bit, and check out the replay, I swear Grant doubles over from the light bump and seriouly considers going to ground before suddenly deciding how stupid that would look.

A Hall suspension would destroy what promises to be an awesome contest on sun

I still maintain, aftere watching the replay of the sunday footy show again that if there were anything in it the umpire in the background would have looked concerned. His look was indignant, as if yeah Chris try it on someone else.

Not on the Ch10 news in Sydney they didn't. Just that they were investigating.

Hmmm not Goldy in the background by chance is it, indignant would sum him up perfectly

Don't think Hall has nuch to worry about, however the AFL tribunal works in mysterious ways when it comes to Sydney

            I AM DISGUSTED AT THIS

            ****ING DISGUSTED.

If this was any other player nobody would be spoken to, he would not be going up.

Booked for ****ing striking, Grant must've squealed like a ****ing baby.

I hope we use every ****ing dive Grant took for the match in the defence, make the ****er look like the piss weak wimp he is. Let's face it it's his word against Barry's so let's discredit his testimony as much as possible. No ****ing prisoners.

Barry must be wondering what the **** he has to do to play this game, wear a ****ing skirt and pink gloves.

I just can't believe this. GGGGGRRRRRR

floppinab I believe you and feel just like you - what official, player or coach reported Hall?
Has to be either Grant or Rohde - if Hall goes - the AFL is definitely not running the game fairly - as umpires and other teams are set against Sydney? Very odd and stupid - not a national game only victorian.
              Love those Swans

Hmm. According to the Herald this morning, no umpire witnessed the event. So no umpy, no video and Hall pleading not guilty....

So basically it's Grant's testimony and whatever the investigations guy digs up. (which can only possibly be Grant's testimony).

Whatever the result it's gonna leave a bad taste in the mouth, I fear.

Who knows what desperate measures a desperate coach (Rohde) and desperate player will take to save a desperate team?

IMO, Hall faces a dilemma, assuming there was a little 'contact' was made to Grant's body and Grant has dobbed him in for it.

                  1) He denies anything happened, therefore refuting Grant's testimony and violating the unwritten player code of conduct (and
                  is dishonest to himself)

                  2) He claims retaliation to Grant contact, therefore guilty.

                  3) He claims some contact, unprovoked, therefore guilty.

I don't think the tribunal can just throw it out because 2 players report two different stories; either Hall goes for striking or Grant goes for staging.

Just because there was contact, doesn't necessarily mean that he struck Grant, irrespective of whether there was any retaliation involved. Players push and shove all the time and sometimes they even fall over when pushed and shoved. In their deliberations, the tribunal normally considers the force of the contact.

Thus Hall's most likely defence (if he has one) is that there was contact between the players but that it was minor and that Grant's reaction was out of proportion to it.

If he did strike Grant and there is reasonable evidence to support this then fair enough, he should go. But if the only evidence against him is that he is Barry Hall, that would be a trifle unfair.

                      re hall reported

                      Hi Guys

I think that the AFL is disgraceful reporting a guy when they did not even see the incident

                      The trbunal is a joke

If they suspend Hall it will be the biggest joke going around

How can they do this ?

                      Regards Dazz

                        Innocent until proven Guilty

If there is no human evidence, media evidence or physical evidence (.ie bruising, etc), then they cannot convict someone on hearsay.

That is what it will come down to. They will need more evidence than "he hit me", to penalise Hall.

PS. If it happened in the goal square, HOW did the goal umpire miss it? Surely his guide dog must've seen it!!

                          re hall reported

                          Hi Guys

What evidence do they have that Hall actually touched Grant let alone belted the living daylights out of him

I don't get the judiciary system

Why does the tribunal pick on Hall ?

He has done extremely well to clean up his act

It happened at the 45 metre line in the middle corridor of the ground, not in the goal square.

every time poor barry hall gets the ball about 5 defenders hold on to him im surprised he doesnt lose his temper all the time. The afl need to take steps to protect him instead of wasting time with rubbish charges.
