Bruising to the bone can be more serious at times than a fracture or ligament damage and can take months to heal. Sometimes X-rays where there is bruising to the bone can mean damage is hard to diagnose.

I saw nothing of Nick to give me any indication of whether he'd play or not.

OK - I'll stop being cryptic. He wasn't at training. I normally don't like to name names of players who don't train (other than those who are known to be out through injury) but in Davis' case it was always going to touch and go and noting that he didn't train is hardly giving away any secrets.

James trained enthusiastically and looked fine.

James should return based on form at the lower level but should not be given the responsibility of minding key forwards. If Davis has received significant bruising to the bone it will effectively be the end of his season unless he plays on painkillers. If the bruising is mild with rest it will recover in a matter of weeks. Bone bruising is painful, restricts movement and also makes the joint, bone more susceptible to stress fractures.

The review in Inside Football Weekly has the Swans losing by 35. Jim Main and Crackers Keenan have both tipped the Swans. Fortunately Ben Casenelia hasn't- he seems to have a thing about the swans and on the rare occasion he does tip us we lose.

Don't know about the Saints being tired... mind games possibly?! I know they went and watched a movie instead of training, but IMO they'll be ready to go on Sunday.
Really looking forward to this match though. Hope it's a flogging.... of the Saints!

Davis wont play. We've got to manage him well. I think he really needs to lift his fitness next year to avoid some of these injuries he's coping.

James will come in for Saddington (similar in some ways), and probably fosdike for Davis, although I surely someone else is playing ok in the 2's. Anyone but fosdike

Last year v Aints Fosdike was rated 2nd BOG at half time.

Fosdike should definitely return and James is essential given the number of blokes they have who are tall and mobile. What about giving him a run with role with Riewoldt who rarely goes back into the square one on one. Most of his marks are taken around the ground and some by hard leading. As for Davis I don't think his body is resilient enough for AFL footy and fear that he hasn't much footy left in him.

Something here doesn't quite compute. James - who's body did it's best for three years to tell him it didn't want to play AFL footy yet who has bravely fought on - is essential, yet Davis who has suffered two (unrelated) this season after playing every game last year doesn't have a body resilient enough for AFL footy?

Players get injured - it's part of the game - and Nick is having a bit of an unlikely run at the moment but I don't see why it should be "terminal".

Why wouldn't you like to name those who didn't train?

You can't think that by naming them you would be helping the opposition. They wouldn't be unprofessional enough not to send thier people to our training sessions.

I understand your point Liz, but am more referring to the fact that he always looks proppy and is very vulnerable to injuries, though often plays through them. I bet if you went through his whole career you find that he has played very few matches where he hasn't spent significant periods on the bench. I agree about James but the fact is the hamstring is one area of the body and they have got that right. Davis has had stress fractures of the back, knee joint, knee ligament damage, ankle problems, thumb and so on. The word resilient I plagiarised from a Melbourne recruiting man who said that that was a bit of a consensus view about his body. BTW Liz, I think I read where you came to the game late, you have great intuitive knowledge of the game and have picked up on all its nuances.
