Teams - Sydney vs St Kilda

I have to say I live the way Roosey seems pretty quick to reward good performances...

Buchanan a couple of good touches and tyhe next week....named on the ground.

Nicks showed a bit of strength and consistency then the next week...named on the ground.

Last week McVeigh was very lively and this week he is......named on the ground.

This isn't negative to Fossy and Nog, Roosey is just rewarded good play. I like it. Fossy and Nog haven't done as much their opportunities as the other two. I thought Ablett was pretty good last week, actually.

Bench will be Doyle, James, Davis, McGlone. If Davis is not fit then Ablett will play.

IMO Roosey right now rates Ab/Fos as fringe so it makes little difference to how the team goes whether or not they play (or a debutant). The debs are in form so what is there to lose? McGlone can play as a receiver/distributor or as a small forward if Davis is not fit or Buchanan is in the midfield. He'll get the nod.

Sad to see Powell so clearly out of form/favour when this should be his chance to step up.

Wow, bad luck for Warfe. Lucky Nicks didn't have a shocker when he had his first match back. Still, if McGlone or Dempster are ready for the big time, I hope one of them gets a shot!

More the other way around - Nicks has been really solid for the team since he got back. No way he's just a passenger as some predicted. And he played a big part in beating the Aints last time.

The best thing for Ablett at the moment, I think, is to just keep him in the team. Some players just seem to adapt straight away to senior football, and others seem to get there more gradually, and I think Ablett is the latter. The problem is that there is not really room in a team to have someone in there for too long without them making much of an impact, escpecially if the team is losing.

I'm desperate for Ablett to stay in the team, because I think he has what it takes - we just haven't seen it consistently yet (by any stretch of the imagination).

So I hope he plays, is what I was trying to say.

I think the bench will be Fosdike, James, Ablett and Doyle (don't have much faith that Davis will get up for this one, but if he does, then Ablett's out).

As for Powell, I would have thought Saddington's injury would open a spot for him somewhere (at least in a 7 man bench) but apparently not. Wonder what he's doing wrong... or maybe the others are just doing more right.

That's my point. If he'd had a bad day, it seems that (if Warfe is any indication) he would have been back to the reserves.

is in for the aints.

The man who produced the worst sustained passage of professional football (not involving any other player) I've ever seen at the SCG - if he can reproduce another passage like that, it could easily be a point that turns the game and St Kilda's season. Fantastic news.

Ablett has had is time anyway and has proven over again that he probably better suited to SANFL or WAFL. I just feel that after 5 years he can't crack the 22 for a regular spot yet a kid off the rookie list can, I hate to give up on the younger guys but I feel its time to pass him up for another kid.

Ps I know he has had limited time but he has had no less opp's than Bevan.

the thing with Nicks when looking at selection, it was his fitness that would have kept him out of the seniors. He wasn't doing overly that much in the reserves, but what he was doing he did right. His positional play was good as was his execution. My reviews at the time were probably biased on his ability at peak and not based on where he was at the time and that was unfair of me. It was probably also misleading for you guys.

On the other hand, Rowan hasn't been bad in the reserves, but you can tell the finesse for seniors footy has unfortunately passed.

Ablett's game at the weekend was actually pretty decent. He got about the same number of touches as McVeigh, though admittedly two or three came when he had to follow up his own error, thus getting another possession. But I counted four long kicks into the forward 50 that all hit their mark. Twice he hit Buchanan on the chest - once when Buchanan ran into the open goal and the other time when he passed off to Davis and it was called play-on for less than 15m. It was also Ablett's kick that Nicks marked for his goal.

The main difference watching McVeigh and Ablett is that McVeigh looks like he believes he belongs out there, while Ablett looks as if he's still not quite sure. But if he does get a few games in the row there's every chance his confidence will grow. When O'Keefe came back into the team last year after some ordinary early season form, he had a handful of similar games to Abletts, where he wasn't getting much of the ball but was doing a lot of chasing. Gradually his confidence increased and he started getting a lot more of it. Now look at what he's done - probably in the top dozen Swans players so far this season.
