    Tony Smith - past player?

I was reading this article from a marketing publication and saw that Tony Smith played for the Swans... he doesn't immediately come to mind. Can someone tell me when he played, etc?

BREAKFREE ENTERS SPORT WITH V8 TEAM

BreakFree Limited, whose subsidiary BreakFree Resorts operates 26 Management Letting Rights (MLR) businesses from Coffs Harbour through to Port Douglas, has entered the world of V8 motorsport sponsorship, signing as a major sponsor of the Howard Racing team. Howard Racing, which competes in the second tier Konica Minolta Series, will brand lead driver Cameron McLean?s number 27 car with BreakFree?s distinctive red, white and black colours as part of the deal. A spokesperson from BreakFree told ASN that this is the first major sponsorship the company has ever undertaken and the deal runs for the next 12 months. Team owner Mark Howard, who juggles his passion of motor racing with a successful career in property development and construction, said the team is motivated to creating success on and off the track and he believe that BreakFree is an ideal sponsor who shares the same commitment to success. BreakFree managing director Tony Smith, who played AFL football for the Sydney Swans, said BreakFree and Howard Racing are a good business match. He said V8 racing is exciting, vibrant and instantly recognisable with good times, which fits well with BreakFree. Smith added that the sponsorship arrangement will provide valuable exposure for their brand as the Konica series travels around the country.
"As a player he simply should not have been able to do the things he did. Leo was a 185cm, 88kg full-back and played on some of the biggest, fastest and best full-forwards of all time, and constantly beat them." Roos.

Looked him up in The Encyclopedia of AFL Footballers - he played from 1986-88, 17 games, 1 goal. Born 1st August 1966, 199cm, 100kgs. Ex Morningside, Queensland.

He was a fringe player when Tommy T-shirt was coaching - probably a ruckman at that height, but struggled to get a game with Ironmonger in the red and white at the time.

Ironmongrel and Tommy T-shirt...damn, there are some blasts from the past. Does anyone remember when we kicked 200 points + two games in a row...? How the hell did we manage that and not win a damn premiership!

Easy Tommy Tshirt trained the boys too hard during the season and come the finals, the team had nothing else to give. They were just plain worn out. Still 86 was the better chance than 87 for a premiership, just a pity we lost Dennis Carroll for the finals and lost a close final to the Lions
          Once was, now elsewhere

            We peaked too early.

I remember the Essendon game where we won by 27 goals. We didn't just spank them, thrash them or thump them that day ... we PUREED them.

It was 2 in a row, against West Coast and Essendon; then they got 198 against Richmond the following week. But they peaked too early, and only won 1 more game for the year.

From memory I believe he wore number 19 and was a slowish lumbering ruckman.

I remember him being involved in an incident where either he or someone else broke their jaw and sued the other.

                      Does anyone else remember this?

Don't remember that guy at all, also Glenn Coleman was there at that time I think sharing ruck duties.

I do recall something of this, but would have no idea as to who the players were or the teams involved for that matter. But the story does ring a bell.
If u don't believe me, I will knock your bloody teeth out and not pay you a cent.

Hafey's commando camps are infamous. Mark Bayes reckons they took two years and who knows how many games off his career.

My memory of him is only vague, but as I recall he was like a boarding house cup of tea. Big and weak.
