    Melbourne Members Unite

Club requests for the 2005 draw are due into the AFL by COB the 11th of June 2004.

Here is your chance to make your feelings known to the club about the lack of games in Melbourne (5 only this year) and the clubs apparent lack of desire to request the AFL for a minimum of 6 games in Melbourne a year.

If you have the chance over the weekend, please e-mail Tony Morwood at the Melbourne office your thoughts to [email protected].

If we don't make our feelings known, the club will continue to take for granted the goodwill and support it receives from all members and supporters south of the border.

Guys - this really is important. We need to make a point. Ask that Morwood forward your e-mail on to Colless and Baron-Hay.

Tell him that 5 games is NOT enough! The only way we are going to be noticed is by taking action. We thought last year that common sense would win out, and look what happened!

Yep, I agree that this is important, however for those of us with limited time can someone draft an elequoent letter that addresses the concerns, then we can use it as a basis when writing to the melbourne office. Charlie, I reckon you could give it a try.

Annie, I'm one minute away from turning off the computer, will look at it tomorrow, although I'm aware my ideas are a little more pointed than others'.

What is the action plan if the Swans do lobby the AFL hard, but only 5 games is forthcoming again?

Perhaps you should get the AFL email address, and CC them on your email to the Swans office?

Damien, that is a good question but at present the AFL sees this as an internal club matter. If we want a minimum of 6 games in Melbourne we have to (in our submission) place this as a higher priority for the AFL to take it seriously.

The e-mail to the club is a way of telling them that this request to not take the support from Melbourne and Victoria for granted and place more importance on it in their submission.

If the club does do that and then the AFL turns around and only schedules us for 5 games, then it is an issue to take up with the AFL.

                        '

Maybe - but I think the AFL should be told by the fans prior to the draw being done up..

Even if the Swans to submit a statement like "Our Melbourne members are frustrated with only 5 games and we fear losing Melbourne based members if this is maintained, we strongly request 6 games" The AFL might say, "Well who cares"??

I am not convinced the Swans take the Melbourne support for granted, I am more convinced that the AFL do.

(Oh and BTW, I just sent an email to Melbourne and Sydney offices supporting 6 or more games in Melbourne )

Change that game in TAS to the ACT and we have a winner for all concerned.

Just need to wait until we get a second side in Sydney for the derby and we end up with 12 games.
