How many games does Brisbane play at the Gabba? 12 I think. If we only play 11 in Sydney, then we become the most disadvantaged team in the comp regarding number of games at our home.

I dont think the Swans' priority will be (or should be) to lose a home game just to play in Melbourne 1 more time. If we can get an extra game there by dropping another interstate game, fantastic. But I think they should be more focused on getting and keeping game sin Sydney because the reduced travel and homeground advantage should help the team out on the field. Increasing our chances of winning on the field should be the number 1 priority.

          Here's mine.

          Dear Tony Morwood,

As you are well aware, the lack of Swans games in Victoria is a serious problem, both for Victorian-based supporters and the club itself. It is the most significant reason that so many regular attendees prefer general admission to membership, limiting efforts to grow the Victorian membership base. With an appropriate rise in price for six or seven Victorian games, the target of 10,000 members would result in over $1million in revenue, every year.

For the past two years, we have had only five games. This has been attributed to the Bulldogs game at the SCG and the Kangaroos game at Manuka Oval, and these are the obvious games that could return to Melbourne. Alternatively, and in fact preferably, one of the four games currently played in other states could be moved to Melbourne as a first step towards seven games, which I believe is the fair number of games that we should have. Seven games was, incidentally, the request for Sydney?s 2003 fixture.

Of particular concern to me personally is the Manuka game, as I cannot see how the Swans playing that game benefits anyone at all. The game is underwritten, meaning the Kangaroos make no extra profits from a full crowd, and having large numbers of supporters travelling from Sydney does nothing for game development in Canberra. To me, this game in particular represents a waste of a Swans game, which is a precious commodity.

Unfortunately, there has been no indication from the club that they intend to do anything to ensure that we receive seven games next year. The fairest possible outcome of the 2005 fixture is seven games for Melbourne, and I?m asking the club to request this when they make their submissions to the AFL next week, perhaps also noting the large latent supporter base that exists here.

Please refer to www.redandwhiteonline.com/forum/, where you will find that both Melbourne and Sydney supporters are working in cooperation to ensure that the club is aware of, and heeds, the requests of both groups. The Sydney based requests are complimentary to Melbourne?s, we believe that we are able to all achieve the outcomes we want from this fixture. Collectively, we believe that supporters and the club working together offer the best chance of this happening.

Finally, please forward this e-mail onto Richard Colless and Myles Baron-Hay, so that both the Melbourne and Sydney offices of the club are aware of the points I?m raising.

One thing we all need to remember is that games in Melbourne is not the same as games in Victoria. Geelong has a team as well, and if we play Geelong in Victoria the match will be in Geelong, not Melbourne.

Therefore, if we ask for and receive 6 games in Victoria, there is a good chance that we get 5 in Melbourne and 1 in Geelong, instead of 6 in Melbourne.

Mathematically, we should get an average of 6.6 games in Victoria a year, taking into account the Doggies home games in Sydney each year. (22/30 * 9 = 6.6). We should not settle for less than 6. If there's a game in Geelong, we should push for as many as 7.

                            Hey Charlie - good letter.

One thing confuses me though - I would be going after the Bulldogs game, as opposed to the Kangas game - The AFL and the Kangas need the Swans to get a decent size crowd. I know it has nothing to do with money, but perception that the Canberra experiment is working is important to them.

I really can't see the Swans getting that changed, and even if they went and lobbied the AFL, I think they would be told to get stuffed.

Think Telstra Stadium is contracted to get a Swans Wizard Cup match each year now. (Thank you AFL)
