Forward line

I'm of the opinion that we need to be blooding Aaron Rogers/LRT as a forward.

We lack a full forward in my opinion. Which can be very detrimentel to the team.

Brisbane for example have Bradshaw,Brown,Lynch,Pike,Michael and Leppa playing KP.

Bradshaw,Pike and Leppstich can be thrown forward if needed against us because they arent needed on a Davis or Micky O.

In the future, Schneids(when are we going to see him again?), ROK and possibly Davo will play midfield after the retirments of Willo and Maxy.

So our structure would be something like

? .... Hall .... Davis
O"loughlin..... ? ..... ?

In the meentime we may draft a full forward, but we are a very small forward line at the moment.

The way the game is played nowadays, almost every player on the ground, apart from maybe one key forward and one key backman, will drift into the midfield at some point during the game. Players like Davis and O'Keefe have shown they are able to do that, but I suspect they will remain primarily as forwards rather than move to be full-time midfielders. I think it is players like Willoughby, Schmidt, Schneider, maybe Buchanan who will be pencilled in to step up in the midfield when Willo and Maxfield retire.

Looking forward even further, where is the next Bazza going to come from? Hall is now 27 and hopefully has another 5 or 6 years left in him now. But it's no good looking around for the next FF/CHF when he retires. They probably need to draft a seriously promising 17/18yo KPP or two in the next 12 months, give him a couple of years to develop some strength and then another two or three playing senior football as a back-up to Hall so that he is ready to become a dominant forward when Hall retires.

In my time following the Swans, the two key forwards have been Plugger and Hall - neither home-grown. It would be great to see the next one brought in young and developed in-house.

Rogers future if he is to have one will most likely be down back after Melbourne had no luck with him up forward.

LRT - maybe but yet again Roo's has signaled CHB for him in the furture.

IMO the answer lay's elsewhere Iam not sure where and at preseant is not a major concern, we have more pressing probs

So you're saying if Rogers is to be a permanent player for us, he will be played back along with Goodes,LRT and James for 8 years?

Er . . . Goodes is only playing defence while he rebuilds his fitness, and the others can't even get a game in the seniors.

Chances are none of them will be "played back" for the Swans over the next 8 years.

If Goodes is rebuilding his fitness and is enjoying playing back there who knows whether he will be moved again.

Just because LRT,Rogers and James arent getting games now doesn't mean they wont be integrel parts of the team in the future.

I noticed that Sharpie was getting at what I was saying in my original post in this thread.

I believe it to be a very big problem, we need a KP full forward, or even if Doyle/Ball were played out of the goalsquare for now.

It doesn't help with Cornes able to go forward agaisnt our short back line.

Yeah, Today showed that if Hall doen't get it thyen no one else does.

Noone to keep the pressure on in the F50 like last week.

Finally someone has it right.

Mick is a superstar when he is on fire. He is so creative, skillful and demands respect, along with a good defender.

Fact is, if we had a second tall forward, Cornes most likely would have played CHB. People can talk about rotating players through the midfield till the cows come home, however we lack tall marking targets up forward.

Brisbane - Lynch, Brown, Bradshaw
StKilda - Hammil, Gehrig, Reiwoldt
Port - Treadrea, Cornes
Essendon - Lloyd, Lucas, Hird

If we are to be a top 4 side we need a couple of marking forwards.

One of the most revealing stats about today was that there was nowehere near as much difference in the forward 50 figures as the scores suggested. With Baz up the ground trying to get the ball we really missed not having Magic or Schneider or a half fit Nick D or a performing Pebbles.

Strangely, this was one of the weeks when if Baz did get the ball he didn't kick across the ground to give him time to get back into the goal square. But we offered so little challenge that Port had a few extra players ready to go on him anyway.

Not having a full forward, a ruckman or a fullback is a bit of a problem when you're playing a halfway decent team.

we need a full forward type now...even an average one...just a solid player...maybe like a justin longmuir or someone... just a tall to compliment hall...leaving him as our best...and hopefully oloughlin and nicks alongside..

perhaps if saddington comes back and hits the best he can he could even do it... tho maybe not his best role...

also we would need to recruit a young gun as someone mentioned before to breed for halls replacement..perhaps so they can play in the same team as hall...much like we did with anthony rocca for lockett except pick a non sook who wont go home

If we follow the tradition and get our FF from StK, I'd go for Riewoldt. In any case, it's not a fixed position these days. It seems to me that Baz and Micky play in tandem, one up, one back, and mix it around.
