Just posting the link in a new thread isn't a big deal so let's do that. I still find the Big Brother (Orwell rather than Ch9) aspect annoying.

And I've written to Brett Kirk to ask if he could get permission from Optus for his match reviews to be posted here. I'll let you know how that goes.

Good on you Des. This sort of stuff must be a major pain that you don't need. Do what you need to to keep it simple.

I, for one, am happy to register at realfooty, because I WANT them to sell more advertising, because I WANT this stuff to remain free. If Foxtel isn't a big enough lesson, what will be?

Of course, I am careful with giving out e-mail addresses and have many disposable ones. Consequently I get about 2 spams per week total. I can live with that.

I know I've come in to this argument a long time (and many posts) after it started, but quite simply I agree with Des. For now, we need to play it on the safe side rather than risk losing everything and then work towards clarifying what we can and can't do. But we have to keep our risk to a minimum and work from there.

        I'm on the Chandwagon!!!

If you cannot compete for the premiership, it's better to be young and exciting than middle-aged and dowdy.

For these reasons, I don't trust commercial websites where compulsory registration is required, so I won't be registering.
The Privacy legislation introduced about a year ago is quite strict on such matters. Of course, one might take the cynical view that they will ignore the requirements of this legislation but at least it clarifies the law on the matter and gives consumers defined routes of complaint and redress.

FWIW I haven't received a single email either from Fairfax or anyone they could have "sold" my details to since I registered on Realfooty a few months ago. Of course, they may have used amalgamated data to enhance their advertising sales (which they are permitted to do under the Privacy legislation) but I have no problem with that. I ignore all the advertising on that site - and pretty much every other website - in any case.

I am staggered. Here is this wonderful thing that started out being termed the International Highway, that everyone could use to share information in a very liberal way, now has restrictions on it because it does not suit certain sites to use in the way that most people interpret it should be.

It's wonderful ability to interlink and provide a massive cross section of input, is OK as long you don't offend some prima donna such as the AFL. I am staggered at my own astonishment.

My solution, gather up all the sites you need related to the AFL/Swans, put them in your favourites, and click on whenever, but god forbid don't use those monsterous, insidious things called links, or you could find yourself breaking big rocks into little rocks for the rest of your life, alongside murders and rapists who have minimum terms.
