    Our Chances This Week

    Pretty low.

Without key, inform players we are pretty much stuffed.

I have put $50 on Port at $1.40 odds.

I backed the Swans last week and wasn't supprised we won, this week I would be shocked. I realy hope that will be shocked!

    so little faith!

anyhow, you've got yourself into a situation where you are hoping Port win so you can make money.

I seriously suspect you've done your dough. I have more faith that we will win this one than I did against the Tigers. Complacency kills us but we lift in adversity. I just watched a quarter of the Aints game thinking "he'll be playing, and him and him". If the newcomers are okay we have enough playmakers to get us across the line. And won't they go in all fired up!

I think you have chucked your money too. Don't you know the golden rule of gambling...never bet on anything where your heart is in it more than your head. OK, I know that phrase would usually be reserved when betting on the swans to win, but your heart is still in the game so you shouldn't be laying money on it!

My bet of the week on an entirely unrelated subject -

FRANK LAMPARD (England) to score 1st (ENGLAND VS FRANCE, EURO 2004) - $17
        Go you mighty BLOODBOYS!

I think Captain has made the best punt of the year. Nothing to do with faith, just some cold, hard realism.

There is no way in the world I'm hoping Port will win. I will be barracking my heart out for the Swans. I don't care about $50.

I just think with the injuries we have (especially Mick and Leo), there is no chance we can win. Hence, why not make some money from a bad situation.

I think I'm betting with my head, not going with my heart like some of you.

I think betting against the Swans is the best way to go. It's a form of insurance.

If we lose at least you get the compensation of some money. If we win then great - you have paid for the win.

Betting on the Swans is a great way to get depressed twice if we lose.

Sometimes (often actually!) there are cases when the head should rule the heart.
Captain Logic is not steering this tugboat.

So if you put$1000 on Port tomorrow which team would you support during the game? If it's the Swans I guess most of us would consider you a true club supporter. Even moreso if you put $10,000 on Port.

Then how about $100? Or the Captain's $50 (to win $20?). I guess it works if you can put a cash value on your team support.

Personally, I'd prefer to support the Swans no matter what and put money on another game.

I bet you can get great odds on the under-Doggies (v the Aints).

The key is not to put so much money on the game to sway your support. I would have thought that was fairly obvious.

In my opinion, betting is about who you think will win, not who you want to win.

I think Port will win, I want the Swans to win.

I think you bet the amount you would normally bet on any other game. If you are getting good odds then you bet more, regardless of what team it is. I'm not trying to bet to save me from bankruptcy or to afford a new car. I'm just having a punt like I do on most footy games.

That would never swap me supporting the swans. I would rather the Swans win then win a bet, regardless of the amount.

I put $500 on Lions in the PF at $1.65. I tell you though, I couldn't speak after the game from all the baracking I did for the Swans. The money helped, but I would have much preferred a trip to Melbourne the next week.

I think there is pretty much no chance of that happening.

                            Captain,

From what you say you only bet on the Swans to lose? What about if you think they'll win? Do you still bet on the opposition or wait until you think the Swans are set for their next fall?

I'm just trying to get a handle on how you think on this.

I work on the assumption that those who don't know the team tend to underestimate them. So the odds for the Aints game last week and the Port final last year seemed very good for a Swans win. So it seemed time to put money on it. But if you are using the money to compensate for a likely loss, you are getting worse odds because you and the bookies agree on the likely result being a Swans loss.

Unless you really use your inside knowledge of the team to know that they are more likely to lose the unloseable - the Tigers, for example. Did you bet on the Tigers? (If so, I bet you cleaned up.)
