If Doyley doesn't get on the paddock this year, then I would suggest injuries will mean his body is not up to AFL conditions and he should be delisted.

His potential is great but that is not helpful out on the pitch! My patience has worn super thin with his health.

Agree - these players who are always injured are frustrating and costing us a lot. I would prefer their place on our list go to someone else.

Will we extend that to Magic and Goodes?

Not Goodes because at least he plays. I think we have seen the best from O'Loughlin and he will always be uncertain to play. However he has talent and has given the club a lot over the years so he should stay. Even when he plays Doyle hasn't looked anything special.Four or five years is a long time to invest in a player who is not going to deliver. We could have picked up a young ruckman 3 years ago and he may have been almost ready by now. But the Swans crappy recruiting is another matter.

cirque du soleil (sp?) style - in fact i think they go 4 high... so add mcglone to our ruck list as well

they will only have to make a contest - but once the ball hits the ground, it will be like there is 4 midfielders in there!

heheh I can picture them all under the one trench coat so the umpire thinks it's only one player rucking

geez you lot can be harsh. We all know Ball is probably going to retire in the next year or two, depending on how his body holds up. Doyle has played 7 of 12 games this year, which is not bad when you consider ruckmen like Primus, Gardiner, King, and the Brisbane rucks have had it worse than Doyle.

We all see the potential in Doyle, but as soon as he tweaks a hammy, everyone gets the nervous nellies and calls for his sacking. Now who do you think should replace him if Ball was to retire this year? LRT? Meiklejohn?

Maybe we could go without a ruckmen.Just have an extra midfielder in there, who we got in the trade for Doyle of course.

I think the focus on a ruckman's ability to get the hitout is overrated. Barely 1 in 4 go to advantage anyway, and this can be countered by your midfield. This is especially the case in the centre.

Also, around the ground a third man up can counter a large opposing ruckman to some degree. J Bolton does that a lot, but I wish either he or some other players would work it out a bit better as most of his punches go into open space and seem to be gathered by the opposition.

What I think is more important is for the ruckmen to simply give a contest, thus making it less likely the opposition will get an effective tap anyway.

The midfield and the ruckmen around the ground are more important I think.
