I thought the umps were good today, there were some dodgy decisions but they didnt effect the result at all.

I was actually thinking it goes to show how much the crowd can impact. There were a couple of calls we would have gotten with some noise behind them (not that the guys there weren't screaming their lungs out - but a handfull against thousands, it just doesn't work unfortunately)

Cannot agree, whilst having no bearing on the result the umpiring was one way and crowd inspired. What about Crouch's contact from Brogan versus Wanganeens two frees in front of goal? Soft as, I have no respect whatsoever for Wanga any more, he just throws his arms out at every contact. The 50 metre was a disgrace, and as in the last game there(not the final) Port belt you in the challenge every single time but they get away with it.
          fork on, man!

I was definitely thinking about home ground umpiring during the game, which had me wondering if we see it at the SCG?

Or was it just that we were constantly behind the play?

I think home ground umpiring is more prevalent in Victoria, SA and even WA as the crowds in these states are more "demanding" than in the Northern states. Sydney crowds are vocal but not as feral or intimidating as Melbourne crowds in particular. They are probably easier for the umpires to ignore.

It's amazing when the team makes clanger after clanger, the bad umpiring is less annoying. A push in Goodes' back here, an unpaid mark there, a high tackle praised by the commentators as a "gang tackle" all pale compared to Hall kicking out on the full, the defense coughing up the ball running from fullback etc etc.

                Still, bloody maggots!

What do you mean? They cost us the game!!

But seriously, has there been a major fall off in umpiring standards this year? It has always been traditional to abuse umpires but this year I've seen decisions at basically every game (not just Swans) that would have failed Umpiring 101.

ok we lost...and no matter what we would of...BUT the umpiring in the port game was so one sided and awful..it was a joke... in the second quarter i think it was there were 3 things in a row i thought we should of got a free and then port get one for a shot at goal... for the same thing... !

The umpire made an error in that they never penalise a playing for continuing to hold when the marking player is not trying to go straight back. The ump must have been side on and not realised that the player in possession was trying to play on.
