Three players injured who would have been expected to be 2nd, 3rd and 4th on the goalkickers list is always going to mess with our goalkicking.

Apart from that the others have all done averagely (which isn't a word but you know what I mean)...ie Nicks not bad, midfielders kicking half their chances. Average, not the Bulldogs and not the Lions.

The major dissappointment has been O'Keefe. He is at leat 10 goals shy of where I believe he should be based on the amount of game time and the amount of effort he has put in this year.

10 more goals from O'Keefe and we would have won 2 or 3 more games. He hasn't stepped up this year when we have needed him. He has not kicked match winning goals for 3 years.

He is one of my favourite players and I confidently predict that when he starts getting tangible results for his efforts then the entire team performance will turn around.
This is the list of non key-position goal kickers (not including Matera who is #1 for eagles)

    Stephen Milne 35
    Cameron Bruce 27 (!!!!!)
    Paul Medhurst 27
    Aaron Davey 22
    Brent Harvey 24
    Ashley Sampi 22
    Brent Guerra 22
    Patrick Bowden 21 (!!!!!)
    Paul Chapman 21
    Mark Williams 21
    Jason Akermanis 20
    Jeff Farmer 20
    Daniel Motlop 20
    Stewart Dew 18
    Brad Green 18
    Brett Ebert 17
    Graham Johncock 17
    James Hird 17
    Nathan Lovett-Murray 16
    Matthew Lappin 16
    Michael Voss 16
    Gary Ablett 16
    Matthew Robbins 16
    Shannon Grant 15
    Andrew Krakouer 15
    Martin Pike 15
    Alan Didak 15
    Dean Solomon 14
    Shaun Burgoyne 14
    Brad Fisher 13
    Justin Murphy 13
    Brad Johnson 13
    Robert Murphy 13
    Tim Notting 12
    Luke Power 12
    Scott Camporeale 12
    Leigh Harding 12
    Russell Robertson 12
    Peter Bell 11
    Chris Judd 11
    Nigel Lappin 11
    Leon Davis 11
    Nick Davis 11

    Mathew Lokan 10
    Ben Holland 10
    Heath Scotland
    Mark Ricciuto 10
    Tyson edwards 10

    Ryan O'Keefe 10

Whatever way you look at it this is not good. He has been in "the best" 3 times this year and has worked tirelessly. He is not even approaching his best yet, though.

This is a good thing for the future, of course. At the start of the year I think a lot of us hoped that he would where Cameron Bruce is (27). Same size, same role. The reality is O'Keefe is interchangeable with Matthew Lokan and a long way from the likes of Ebert, Lovett-Murray, Dew and Bowden who are all showing him how it should be done.

Hopefully a long look at this list would be a wake up call.

I agree - I think he has been okay, but not really been influential enough. With Liz's half-year review of the players, I thought there could have been more criticism of O'Keefe in this area.

My reading of O'Keefe's role, particularly in the second quarter of the season, is that he has been pushing much farther up the ground, often sacrificing his own game by trying to take a danger man out of the play. At times he has been, as Dermie likes to call it, a decoy CHF, leading up onto the wings and clearing out the space behind him for Bazza to lead into. I do agree that there have been a couple of less experienced opponents on whom he might have done more damage by running into the goal square more, but my guess is that he is acting on instructions to keep out of there as much as possible, especially when O'Loughlin returned.

I agree with both Sharp 9 and NMW regarding Pebbles, but I also agree with Lizz (now is that sitting on the fence or what).

As Lizz says He has been playing up field a lot more lately so his influence resulting in goals isn't going to be likely as earlier in the season.

Having said that, I'm a little disspointed at his return so far. There have been many goals that he should have kicked. He has a beautiful long range shot, particularly when on the run. He should back himself a little more. He's shown he can do it and this has been a good aspect of his game to date. He missed two of these long range shots (by a lot) in the Essendon game and since he has more often offloaded (not always resulting in a goal). His set and close in shots that have probably been letting him a little too.

There is room for improvement there.

(OMG did I actually say all of that )

So first you say you have a point, then you say you have no point, but just posting. Which is it?

"the main point isnt the comparison of goals for or against its the fact that at the moment we are 6 wins and 6 losses and hanging on for dear life in the 8 and last year we were 7 and 4 and considered a genuine premiership threat"

Firstly, the easy one - we were 8 & 4 this time last year. Secondly, no one really considered us a genuine premiership threat.
Thirdly, of course the goals for and against matter as that's what determines who wins. It can provide some degree of explanation of why a team is performing better or worse.

            its hard being wrong :P
