They were originally going to have a train (Magpie Express or Collingwood Express) to incoporate it with the promotion of the game, travel/ticket packages etc. Don't think they went through with it though

Now Hopoate (if thats how you spell it) would be an interesting convert to AFL.

If he played for Collingwood you could say he had a "finger in a few pies".

God the ARU are good at getting headlines for nothing stories.
I swear they do it deliberately. They place their biggest matches in direct competition with ours.

And start innuendous gossip (aka Tiqiri, Andrew Johns) to divert media attention from opposition codes.

The ARU, the lowest of the low, I tell you!

LMAO Tall Poppy Syndrome? I am sorry but Rugby isn't exactly the Delta Goodrem of Australia's sporting world!

When a whole code relies totally on the success it's national team you know they are in trouble (Hello Soccer Australia). Free To Air don't even want to know about Super 12's.

Rugby is meant to be Sydney's 2nd winter sport in direct competition with league - yet no ones goes unless it is Australia playing, or unless the Waratahs are hyped up.

I think you are vastly underestimating rugby. The sport has gone from strength to strength. 38000 in Melbourne to see the Wallabies against Scotland is an astonishing crowd considering Scotland didn't win a match in the 6 nations. They were heavily promoting the 4th Super 12 franchsie as well. Super 12 itself was made for pay TV preventimg Channel 7 from showing it at a half decent time. Be interesting to see if the next TV rights copies the AFL model with a pay and free to air partner. The Waratahs dont need any hype. Constant huge crowds over the past 4 years, and will always beat the Swans head to head if we play at the same time. 2 million people attending RWC can't be wrong. If you want to compare club rugby to AFL, well why not compare Sheffield Shield as well. Nobody attends, never really have had major crowd support, but that is not the point, they are feeder comps for the national teams.

AFL's strength is its insularity. The national team doesn't have any real opposition. Internation Rugby League is a non-event too, hence club and state of origin will always be more popular, but give a sport a truly global stage, like rugby and of course the national team will always be the focus.

The AFL are equally to blame for the situation we have this Saturday night. They did sit down with the AFL but a compromise could not be met. But in the big scheme of things the ARU would barely blink. This match will be seen by tens of millions worldwide.

I hate code bashing, there is room for all IMO.

                          Got a little excited last night, was painting a banner for the cheer squad and watching Big Brother. Ten are doing their bit (sort of) for those of you who missed it;

Ryan was advised that if he got the other housemates (without actually telling them the reason ) to partake in 4 tasks, he'd get them the game played into the house. Each task completed represented a quarter.

They had a mini game with 4 boys playing 1 umpiring and the girls being the supporters.

One of the house mates had to receive a massage
                          Someone had to streak
Two of the housemates had to kiss for 10 seconds
The entire house had to get into the spa after the match and sing the song (they chose We are the Champions)

Interesting note, Ryan had the shot to win the game but missed. The other team scoring to bring the margin closer. The next shot went to Paul who is a Collingwood supporter and he kicked it Lets hope reality doesn't follow reality TV

it was funny to watch. He's such a clown. The down side for Ryan. He's not allowed to tell them what they won, so they suggested he made it up so he could kiss Bree.

Reality TV would be putting hidden cameras in My house without me being aware. That would be reality...... It would also be really really boring. As for the shower scenes..... lets not go there.

Certainly not bashing - but I will react when some uses the "tall poppy" defence when a sport is bagged out!....and well I never underestimate any sport, especially in Sydney, where a winner is typically backed - I just question the viability of the code if the Wallabies are not competitive.

The 2 million people that attended RWC are not all rugby fans lol, I attended rowing at the Olympics but you wont see me go to the next regatta!!!!!!!

I think rugby fans have got way ahead of themselves - they did a great job with a tournament that captured the imagination of the nation for a month - and just like soccer world cup and world cup qualifiers, the memory quickly fades and it is back to League or AFL for the majority of people. To me using the world cup of Rugby, is like saying that 72,000 fans last year can't be wrong about AFL , when I know that crowd proves nothing about moving AFL from being a niche sport to a mainstream one in Sydney.

Also, I really think the Waratahs should easily sell out Aussie Stadium, week in week out, they are NSW's representative side in what is a "rugby" state.

Anyway I am rambling now!- over and out
