Rood Lunch talk - 8 not ready for AFL

I thought this might be a good thread.

I was just at a lunch for some corporate types (yeah ok so I am one of them) and Mr Roos spoke ... very funny, laid back, lots of jokes (as you would expect).

He made the comment that 8 of the current list are not quite ready for AFL yet ..so "38 is really 30".

So who are the 8 that are too small, young etc and how good will they be?

ok experts out there .. over to you

    I'll start with:

    * Erikson
    * That smokey we took in the draft, what was his name?

That's all I can think of

      I would say:

      Ericksen
      Matty Davis
      Schmidt
      Willoughby
      Thewlis
      Taylor (Rookie)
      Potetr (Rookie)

      Then there is:

Malceski - injured but wouldn't be ready
Meiklejohn - will never be ready for AFL

I think Dempster is ready and has been close to playing a couple of times. Would be disappointed if we didn't see him on the park at some stage this year.

I would class someone like McVeigh in this category, as in he's not ready to play a large number of minutes in a game. Hence, that's why you see him so much on the bench.

Rookies are not included in Roos's 38 that he is talking about, so that doesnt include guys like Potter and Taylor.

I disagree. If he werent ready, he wouldnt have played 10 games this season. I think the bench time is a way for Roos to slowly introduce him into the top level because he still has a slight frame on him - compare this to Bevan, who has filled out nicely.

                      Im thinking the 8 are:

Ericksen, Malceski, M. Davis, Schmidt, Thewlis and Wolloughby, Mieklejohn, Rogers.

Mieklejohn because he is groomed as a ruckman and the Port game clearly showed he isnt ready.

Rogers because his skills are not good enough yet, despite his big body. If he was ready, he would be in the team considering all our injuries, especially as replacement for Schauble.

Hey .. interesting thing was that Simon Poidevin (ex wallaby (RUGBY) captain) was the MC for the lunch!

if we're not counting rookies or long term injured players my 8 would be

                          Dempster
                          Meiklejohn
                          McGlone
                          Schmidt
                          Ericksen
                          Davis
                          Rogers
                          Thewlis
