          A few observations.

From what I have seen of them this year, the Wobblers played better on Sat than they have all year. So all credit to our guys. (the few intelligent posters on the Wobblers site are saying that too)

LRT is very green and gets no stats, but he was at all the aerial contests in the last desperate minutes and did well at them. Just give the kid some time.

Buckley was all class. The wobblers who missed easy goals have been doing same all year. (Davis, McGough)

Doyle will be a great tap ruckman if he can stay fit.

Benny fumbled a bit at first (not surprising) but his cool clearance at the end was sensational and vital.

Mick?s last quarter was superb. Those who spoke to him at the trivia night will know that he showed true G&D and broke the pain barrier doing what he did. I just hope he doesn?t pay for it.

From afar it seemed like the umps slaughtered us in the last quarter. But from the lack of complaint by the oracle NMWBloods I presume they were justified, which means our blokes will have to be cooler in crisis in future.

JF please remember you are not made of glass. If I?d have been sitting right behind you there might have been a fist through that drum. But it was great for getting the crowd going all the same. (Guess that?s one reason why I don?t sit with the CS!!)

Re. Doyle - he is most definately in our best 22 (and not just because we have no other realistic ruck options). He was better than Ball in the ruck on Saturday night, and although his around the ground influence is less than Ball's, with them both on the park Sydney is that much of a better team. I was surprised he wasn't rested in the forward line more (or maybe he was, and it was at the other end from me).

Someone on one of the other threads quoted a stat saying that he got more hitouts than Ball from less opportunities. That's a fair effort for someone (apparently!) not in our best 22.

Those personal insults long after the heat of the battle from a winning Swans supporter are so disappointing it's not funny.

Sydney is a transient town and there are lots of Melbourne ex-pats here. My best mate who gets along to the footy with me every week was torn in 2 on Saturday night because his original love is the Pies. And no it's not T.M. because my mate doesn't have the techno skills to operate an electric toothbrush let alone find an online board.

Let's play nice, the game is over and the best side won. That's usually the way these games work out.
I agree. I go on thePowerfromPort (hence the people over here). I say it like I see it. Sometimes the Port supporters get upset. Sometimes they appreciate the opinion of somebody from the other side of the fence, and appreciate that I'm there not to troll but to give my opinion as a Swans supporter. The stuff I said about Mark Williams coming across as a highly nervous man before the Port final stuck an accord with many posters. Because as it proved, it was the truth.

Just like Norris Lurker will barrack against us once a week, so will Tarrant Magpie.

I know we all go feral when it comes to the Magpies. They bring out a manic reaction in many of us.

But how many Magpies out there will be wanting us to win on Saturday against Carlton? I'd gather to say all of them.

i think you might have some anger issues..and you guys won the game....

Yeah I have met all the swans list as I live in sydney and go to the games...didn't u read my first post? I course I know who Powell, Thewlis, Sundqvist and Malceski are. I watch the reserve game as well as the main game. So you can abuse me all you want but I called it from a pies perspective, if you're not interested you can ignore the post, or if someone is interested they can read and reply with something a bit more intelligent. Everyone is entitled to an opinion, the world would be boring if everyone liked the same things.

As for the Nicks free kick - from my view at the game I thought the umpire paid the mark, i was at the ground and didn't see the replay, so thanks for enlightening me further on the issue.

I think we should of won but our kicking for goal was woeful...yep we deserve to be 14th at the moment, but think we'll improve on that be season end.

Swans may make the 8, but not the top 4, Brisbane will be to good for all and sundry. Let's move on......

and yes 'JF_Bay22_SCG' u r dead right....we would like you to smash carlton to oblivion!! please by 100 points, no less.

TheHood: thx - I see the same thing on the pies bulletin board, even between our own supporters, slagging people off who have an opinion contrary to the popular view, or just contrary to their narrow minds.

Harsh but fair - Ball struggles in the centre bounces these days - I don't think he has the leap any more. Does much better around the ground though. Ball looks very tired to me and I think he might retire at the end of the year.

Still, I think tap work in the ruck is over-rated anyway.

You can rebuke an opposition supporter and their views without getting personal, it's really pretty simple.

and now for some more random thoughts:

Doyle: best game he's played this year - still has a lot of improvement before he's a reliable #2 ruckman - but slowly making progress

Fixter: Looked very rusty early, but shows plenty of guts - he will get better as he gets more games under his belt

Thewlis: Reminds me of ROK from a few years back, not getting many possessions, but using his body well, getting into position and making a contest - showed some good signs

Ablett: showed glimpses of the form he showed in the finals last year, still got a way to come but if he continues to have a dip the improvement will come

McVeigh: a couple of impressive passages, Swans were criticised for taking him ahead of Salopek, but the two are about even at this point in time.

Bevan: Throws his body into contests with scant regard for his safety - a real tough nut, needs to sharpen up his disposal a little, and be careful not to give away clumsy frees, but shaping as a very handy find.

Lew-Bob-Tom: his ball-handling needs work, still very fumbly, but another one who goes in hard at the contest - we're developing quite a few of these! We lack big solid talls, so he will be important in coming years.

Umpires: Were CRAP. Goldspink is whistle happy. Both sides were on the end of some pretty shoddy umpiring, the difference being Collingwood got a number of shots at goal from it.

Tarrant Magpie: For a Collingwood fan on an opposition board is generally being pretty reasonable - I don't know why people are jumping down his throat. I for one actually enjoy hearing opinions from other teams fans - as long as its not childish whining and name calling - which the posts from Tarrant Magpie are not. As far as I'm concerned he is quite welcome here.

My typing: Is worse than Goldspink's umpiring - the number of typo's I had to correct before posting this!

I went to Magpies.net and quite enjoyed reading a lot of the intelligent comments about who will be on who etc etc. Just Joffa bignoting himself all the time gives me the heebies.

I have to ask. Are you a Swans member Tarrant Magpie?

Good that you support football even if it not your club. Just I have to hate you once each year.

                          Hey JF

No I'm not a Swans' member, but I was between 1996 and 1999. I then got SCG membership after waiting 11 years. I'm still an SCG member and go to both footy and the cricket. My (Swan supporting) parents are both members and we all went to the 1996 GF, but unfortunately got tix right in the middle of the Roos cheersquad area.

Although I am a diehard Pie, I love going to see live footy and it's good when AFL is prominent in the Sydney media which usually corresponds with the Swans winning. It's great to see our code taking on League.

As for hating me once a year - likewise.

By the time LRT develops into "the player he could be" Ball will almost certainly have retired.

However, Lewis is not seen by the club as a ruckman. Per Andrew Ireland at the start of the season, they want to groom him as an athletic KPP, ideally CHB. His height means that he will be a player capable of pinch-hitting in the ruck when needed but I doubt he will ever be in the team primarily as a ruckman.

On current ability, both Ball and Doyle would be ahead of LRT in the race for spots in the best 22.

Out of question lizz, what do you think our end of season direction will be this year are we going to hunt a ready made "best 22 type" or take young kids again the reason for asking is with the amount of developing players currently on the list is worth chasing more or going for the above.
