If Hamill wasn't such a money hungry mercenary scum then he would have gone to you guys in the deal that was arranged. Saints came in at the last second and paid more money.

I know Fixter is a potential gun ... that's why I want him down with us. However, you have to trade like for like. Livo was a number 4 draft pick and has some pretty good scalps as a key backman when he was 19. Unfortunately this year he has been pigeon holed with us and will really struggle to develop further in the current environment - much like Craig Bolton at Brisbane. Would look good in Red and White and Benny would certainly look good in Navy Blue!

Heavs, comparing Bolton's situation at the Lions and Livingstone's is drawing a very long straw. If a number 4 pick can't get a game in a fairly thin list, there's something wrong. Craig Bolton would walk into the 22 at any club now, inc Brisbane. I don't think Livingstone has played a game this year ?

Acknowledge that. He was so close to being ours. Although we did pick up Bazza the following year to fill that gap, and Baz is better for us, particularly when O'Loughlin is on the park.

Yeah he's been injured for the majority and only come back through the twos now.

The talent doesn't just go away... Livo has talent. Confidence in your own ability sometimes hides your true ability. Sometimes it just takes a different environment to give you that confidence and bring that talent out. Look at it this way - Clement at Collingwood couldn't get a gig at one of the worst lists ever at Freo. Moved to Collingwood, new role, confidence gained, now he's a regular and would walk into most sides as well.

Blokes who are good enough to play AFL aren't **** players - it's just their head is messed up. It just needs a new environment to bring out their true potential.

Sorry Hammo, I can't have any of those Carlton players you listed, except maybe Waite but he won't be going anywhere.

Prendregast is another boarding house cup of tea. Big and weak, and slow and can't kick to boot.

Amon Buchanan and access to Tim Schmidt.

I think the deal was a third round pick plus a swap of our second round pick with Adelaide's.

The third round pick was used to redraft Monty, while it was tipped that both the Adelaide clubs had their eye on Schmidt, a well-regarded local Adelaide boy, and there is a chance one of these clubs would have taken him with their second round pick, before ours. Of course, that is all speculation and he may still have been available had our second round pick stayed where it originally was.

to be able to draft the minimum of thee players, we will need to cut three, if it were me, id cut:

                  sunny
                  macleski
                  meiklejohn
                  warfe

                  leaving 34 on the list...

now that i have your attention! id redraft sunny and macleski in the lower bowels of the draft as noone would go after two blokes who are in the middle of recovering from an ACL injury and put meiklejohn back on the rookie list... this leaves one spot to fill where we could take one pick

this still leaves a spot for bevan to be elevated

if we were to redraft sunny and macleski and take one pick id suggest we would enter the draft after the third round, leaving our first three picks available to trade

although, we dont necessarily have to elevate bevan, we could nominate him again... sure he would be on a reduced salary but if we are tight for spots we could promise him that he'll be well compensated the year after next... tis an option

Fully agreed. Albett has a very similar case to Livo. How about if we trade these two guys. It should be a win-win game for all. Fixter if stays fit, would be a gun whereever he is playing. He does not need a change of environment to prosper and so he should stay put.

Nice thoughts but its unlikely that the club will add only one rookie via the draft for next season. If we did cut the four players named above, I would expect that Warfe and MJ wouldn't be back and Sunny and Malceski would be rookie listed. If we were to re-draft one of them, it would most likely be Sunny.

if we were to redraft sunny and macleski and take one pick id suggest we would enter the draft after the third round, leaving our first three picks available to trade
Won't happen. The club will at least keep either their 1st or 2nd Round Pick. I'm not opposed to trading our first round pick this season, but I don't want to have our first pick at the 40th pick in the draft.

although, we dont necessarily have to elevate bevan, we could nominate him again... sure he would be on a reduced salary but if we are tight for spots we could promise him that he'll be well compensated the year after next... tis an option
Sadly that isn't an option as Bevan has been on our rookie list for two seasons and therefore as a player can only been on a rookie list for 2 seasons before being exposed again. For Bevan to be put back on the rookie list for next season he would have to enter the draft and then we hope he doesn't get drafted (as if). Then and only then can we put him back on the rookie list.
                        Once was, now elsewhere

I don't think any of your scenario is particularly likely, but this part doesn't make sense. If we have traded our first three picks I expect we'd have got something in return - ie players - and these need to be fitted within the list as well. So unless we are packaging each of these picks with existing players, the numbers still don't add up.

As I said earlier in my very long post, chopping MJ doesn't make sense unless another, more mature ruckman can be brought onto the list via trading. It would take a massive pre-season for Erikson to be ready to be chief ruck understudy next year. MJ is at least physically ready, even if he still has a fair bit to learn about the rucking craft.

Thanks lizz for that really short answer

Out of the West, they are saying contract negoations with Ottens and Richmond have fallen down I relise hes a South Aussie but would he be worth a crack.(natrualy we will hunt Hayes first up but as a second option)

A real smokey for those that want a key forward Brad Smith (Tall, strong FF) from Claremont 25years old leading goal kicker in the WAFL for the last three years missed being drafted due to injurys (in his early years) has proven to be well over them now, the local coverage on this guy from 6pr is that he really dominates at WAFL level Scott Watters and Carl Langdon believe he would not let any AFL side down.

I just thought Id add that one in.

I think we learnt our lesson with Ryan Fitzgerald.

There is a big gap between minor leagues and AFL, and at 25 if he cant make the transition on day 1, he's not going to improve much.
