Take a bow? For having the time of our lives? (and a couple of heart attacks).
I now have FAL (football acquired laryngitis).
He reminds him of the guys, close-set, slow, and never rattled, who were play-makers on the team. (John Updike, seeing Josh Kennedy in a crystal ball)

I just got home from a great game and a great aftermatch dinner in Lygon Street. We had 20 in our group and there were many Swans fans out and about.
For those who are surprised at the number of Swans fans, there really are a lot of us in Victoria. I guess at Optus Oval we are more compacted into one are that at the G where we can sit anywhere, and at the Dome where GA fans are forced to the top level.
Go Swannnniiiieeessssss - oh my poor nervous heart!

Thanks everyone, this thread is something nice to come home to. The Cheer Squad today went off and I can say that we were the loudest we have EVER been in my time. The slow Sydney chant in the last quarter was bloody loud and once we started using the drum in the last quarter, our chants just went from there.

I would say that there was at least 8000 Swans fans there today, most in the Legends Stand which was 90% Swans in the lower part.

We in the CS always try our hardest to get the chants going, with normally little success, but today was worth the effort and trouble, because we went well and truelly off.

          Great work those there today

              Just got back to Sydney....

The next time I hear a Victorian claim Sydney fans don't understand the game I'll laugh in their face - every single tackle of a Swans player was greeted with a shout (grunt) of "Baaaaalll" by the Blues fans - at one point I turned round and asked if the idiots behind me knew the rules of the game....

Absolute dump of a ground - moaning, whining supporters....may they rot in the bottom 8 for the next 10 years.
              Regards,

Had a fun afternoon did you Mick!!

I know it's a bit off topic but there was a similar idiot of a Carlton supporter sitting behind me at Telstra for the Wiz Cup game earlier this year. Every single Swans possession was "illegal" in his eyes. The funniest part was his constant accolades of "Harford you're a superstar" everytime he won a possession off some first year Swans rookie.

Back on topic - great effort by the Melbourne Swannies this afternoon. Seeing you out in numbers was fantastic.

I'm sure many of them know the rules, but yell "Baaaaalll" anyway, in an attempt to encourage the umpires to make one or two home-ground decisions.

We sat on the concourse in front of the Legends stand. Behind us sat a family of Carlton supporters(although one son did support Sydney). The combined IQ of the whole family was probably about 3 and they were so loud.I had ear phones on and still was getting blasted. But most of the other people around were Swans supporters. When we were 18 points down I said to my husband " we are gone we could come back in Sydney but not here". So the support must have been more than it sounded at the ground. On another note the ground is the pits to drive to - it took us an hour and a half to drive to Richmond afterwards. The traffic was shocking. In Sydney we could drive from the SCG to Beecroft in much less time.

I really upset a Carlton supporter sitting in front of me. Every time I yell something out she yelled something at me. What was I supposed to do? Sit there and say nothing?

Being in the midst of the Cheer Squad I didn't really appreciate how loud the R and W was until I watched a replay of the match...

I would like to say that I provided the target for BBB going for the 5th goal, I held up the MAGIC sign praying that he would hit it as if he did it would be a goal. Everyone around me thougt I was being a bit foolhardy, but I was holding it really still so as not to cause distraction, what happened? the ball landend smack bang on the sign, nearly snapped my wrists it did, but I felt no pain.

Good job all, and the drum makes such a difference.

Funny how people see different venues.

I grew up going to suburban grounds like Optus (was Princes Park) Vic Park (Collingwood) Windy Hill (Essendon) Albert Park (South) Junction Oval (Saints) Western Oval (Footscray) Arden Street (North) and can even remember Brunswick Street Oval (Fitzroy). I don't see Optus as a dump but as a memory of what was an integral part of the development and culture of our game.
                              The surface is excellent.

It will be sad when they move to the picture perfect Telstra Dome as this is the last bastion of our Melbourne past. Long live Kardinia Park.

It was great to be able to stand amongst opposition supporters and laugh and joke. In most parts of the world supporters are segregated.

By the way there was man Carlton supporters ringing talk back whinging about the umpires losing them the game. Stats 16 us 19 them. Inside F50 us - nil for them 4. They got a really good run until late in the game when they gave away a number of frees for head high tackles. Radio commentators said umpires had no bearing on the result.

Just got back home and I must say that is the best ever trip down south for me. Thanks Melbourne CS for making us Sydneysiders so welcome.

What a refreshing change to be in a city where when wearing one's colours, one is not looked at as a freak the day after the footy.

The chanting at the ground was absolutely awesome, particularly with the drum that we were told to stop using after the first quarter. You Melbourne supporters rock. I can't wait to see the replay of the game.

It was also great to meet so many fellow members from RWO at the game and at dinner. What a fun weekend, even the car trip was much better than I was expecting. Got to do a fair bit of sightseeing too. Can't wait to go down for the Melbourne game and do it all over again.
