What did everyone think of the umpiring this round?

Wasn't that bad, but IMO there were a lot of soft free kicks to Swans and Blues. They seemed to be handing them out L R & C.

Yes lots of soft both ways evened out. However Carlton scored three goals from umpire errors (again). Plus we had two certain goals denied from umpre errors (again). So that 's five goals in total. This happens to us every week!!!!!!

There was a very obvious holding the man on Schneider in the second quarter that wasn't paid. We could see it clearly from where we were sitting, the Carlton player had Schneider by the jumper and stopped him taking possession. And this was not paid! We gave the umpires plenty for that. Bad maggot! Booooooooo!

wasn't to bad, just seemed a bit whistle happy in parts and like they swallowed it in others, still no Goldstink so the umpiring could have been worse

Umpire No 3 was appalling. Continually found Blues kicks and played us on when they infringed against us.

We must have been 6 or 7 to 2 in the freekicks at one stage.

The worst however, was the O'Loughlin decision in the last quarter right in front of the Sydney Cheer Squad where he took the mark off Micky and gave it to the defender.

I am looking forward to watching a replay...

I didn't know what that free was about (against Magic) they showed it on replay and it looks like it was a holding on by Magic, but his defender (hardly know any Blue names) looked to pull magic down when he got the mark so I surely thought when the whistle went it was to give the mark to Magic... surely not take it away from him.

I thought Goodes was unlucky to not get a couple (including where Kouta hit the post) - they probably got a bit better of it, but there was nothing glaringly pathetic like last week or against Essendon.

I don't normaly comment on umps, but today we got the better of it and the Carlton surpporters can feel very hard done, but in the wash up did not effect the end result imo

I reckon the O'Loughlin one is up there in the baffling stakes.

I thought the umpiring reached its usual ordinary standard. The team with the run-on at the time seemed to be favoured by very soft frees for much of the match - Carlton in the third and first part of the final quarters, us towards the end.

I thought the umpiring was inconsistent as usual.Some of the in the backs are hard to fathom.Goodes was driven into the ground for no free but we got a free for a gentle contact in the side.Free kicks off the ball are plucked out once or twice a match yet you could pay one every minute given the blocking and holding that goes on.
It was funny watching a shot of the crowd abusing the umpire.The Swans and Blues supporters were equally boisterous.The umpires probably think if both sets of supporters are abusing them then they must be doing a good job.

The great thing about Optus when you stand is you get a close look at boundary throw ins.

Almost every time Bolton was clearly held, and I mean held. I watched McLaren who looked straight at these infringments a number of times and just ignored Boltons protestations. Yet get the slightest hint of a shepherd off the ball and the whistle blows.

Watching McLaren yesterday almost convinced me that James Hird was correct in his assessment. At times Bolton was held in bear hugs for extended periods well before the ball was thrown in even.

Carlton supporter perspective - they were abysmal both ways. We got a ****load of soft free kicks when we got the run on late in the third. But then got a certain goal denied when Fisher got a mark taken off him in the goal square in the last which would have put the game out of reach for you lot. But that's footy - I'm sure they don't do it deliberately - they are just bottom of the gene pool ...

Good win for you guys - real character and should push you into the top 4 now.

There was a major hold/shepherd off the ball which allowed Fisher to mark almost uncontested.

All the soft stuff in the middle of the ground was inconsequential (even though it is bad umpiring) it doesn't affect outcomes. Six goals in Carlton's favour from umpire errors (I'm taking the Shsneider one on good faith) is having a major impact.

Carlton got 4 frees in the forward 50 for 2 goals, the Swans got no frees in F50 for the whole game. I'm not saying that none of the frees were warranted, but given the umpiring it's also unlikely that all of them were warranted.

Bazza also gets shafted by the umpires for frees more than any other forward in the competition. He can be held, illegally shepherded, pushed in the back, even ridden like a Melbourne cup winner, and the umpires will usually be looking elsewhere.
