If we can't beat any of the teams above us on the ladder we don't deserve to be in the eight. We are kidding ourselves if we think we can have a run at the flag if we finish eighth.

Pigs would fly before the AFL moved a finals game from Sydney to Melbourne, assuming the Swans had won the right to host one, especially just to become the second Melbourne game.

I understand what you are saying, the possibilty of 80000 at the stadium would be almost too tempting. However the MCG Trust at times seem to exercise much power. The AFL 'banked' an MCG final last year, they have duck-shoved an interstate final before into Melbne , as crazy as it may sound, I believe they would indeed move a Sydney game down there if they had to.

They have added commitments to the Dome as well, to further complicate scheduling.

Incidentally I hope you are correct.

Under the AFL-MCC contract, if the AFL banks a final in the first two weeks of the finals, they must pay the MCC back with an extra final sometime in the next 2 seasons. Basically the rule is the AFL must hold at least 6 finals during the first two weeks of the finals at the MCG during a 3 year period. So if the AFL doesn't pay back last years final this season they always have next season.

As for the Telstra Dome, they only host a final, if 2 finals are in Melbourne during the first week of the finals. Nothing from then on, as Finals in Melbourne after week 1 can only be held at the MCG.

And are any of you prognosticators going any good with your footy tips? My ladder predictions 7 weeks out would be worth as much as John Howard's word.

I'm still convinced there are only three teams that can win the Flag - Port, Lions and the Swans. I stick by my original prediction at the start of the season - Swans to take the Lions crown on Grand Final Day....
