I cringed when I saw Doyle move into the centre square bounces when there was 5 mins to go and we had to make up 8 points. It would only be through sheer luck that we could get a clearance.

He's a real worry, with Ball close to retiring, I don't think I have the confidence to have Doyle playing as the first ruck. We could have a mini-crisis on our hands here as Meiklejohn and Ericksen as still very raw.

Well anyone who thinks Doyle has to go probably has to go themselves!

What are the other options that you would like? Micklejohn - forget it - he won't be on the list next year.

Doyle did well in the 1st quarter.
            Still developing.

And we wont be getting rid of Meklejohn next year I can assure you. He may even have to play 2nd ruck behind Doyle.

I don't think Doyle is much of a ruckman, but we don't really have too many options.

I wasn't too disapointed with his display today. Saying that furtively but with justification. He did OK for his development. But you are right, when Ball goes, we will be in dire straits (ATM)

                  Doyles not far off.

He is getting his hands to the ball, he just needs to:
                  1) Not give away stupid ruck infringements
                  2) Not get so easily shepparded out of marking contests.
                  3) Actually tap it to our advantage.

1 & 3 should be easy to correct. 2 - we can only hope.

Of course he gets his hands to the ball - he's a beanpole. He has little idea at this stage what to do though.

He has been skating a thin line with 1) in recent weeks. Likes to give short sharp elbows if the opposing ruckman is behind him and paid the price today. Totally unnecessary in my opinion.

Go back to a few years ago and he was a good mark of the ball. Seems to have lost his confidence

                      3) isn't so easy to correct. He just seems to have no idea where the midfielders are.

He seems to struggle with the tap it to our advantage, so maybe its time we took a leaf out of the Lions book and just belt it forward to our advantage - they don't worry so much about the pretty looking clearances, their key objective is to get the ball moving forward towards their goals.

Agree. So many times Doyle goes for the gentle palm down IN THE BL**DY WRONG DIRECTION, even in their 50. Now this would work if it landed in the hands of one of ours but so often it doesn't. It may get bottled up again which is OK, but it invariably inches forward - in their direction. Drives me nuts. Can't understand why in those circumstances the instruction is not just to belt the dam thing away from their goal as far as possible. Afraid that my view of Doyle in centre bounces is not much better. Also cringed when realised it was him on the ball with 5 mins to go. He jumps too soon more often than not and does little effective work. Around the grounds - can't take a mark. Disappointing for such a tall player.
Patterns emerge, but do they mean anything? No.

Ruckmen take a long time to develop. they need good pre-seasons, Doyle is not a write off yet.

I think Doyle has inherited the boo-boy mantle from Sadds and Fosdike!

He needs longer...thats the way it is with tall guys. If you think he will never, make it, that is one opinion, mine is that he needs to finish this season injury free, get in a good pre-season and lets see next year.

There are other players whom we should have long hard look at today, eg Schneider has been very ordinary for three weeks now and does not look at all ready to be starting player again yet.

In tight games we need 22 players.

boy i got shot down on this board a couple of months ago when i said Doyle was useless,if anyone can get the stats i know for sure that theres an amazing stat that whenever hes on the ground we go from doing the creating to chasing very quickly and inevitably the other team gets a run on nearly every time hes in the ruck.
