Yep, I've been saying that for a while. I don't think he can go another year.
Doyle has to go......

Has anybody thought that Doyle might be the perfect ruckman simply following the instructions of an appalling ruck coach?
Surely if you or I can see his shortcomings from the sidelines, there must be paid professionals also seeing these things and working with him to rectify them? Maybe it's time for a new ruck coach?Comment

It's even worse than that because we have NO ruck coach (given the age of our rucks it's an incredinble silly piece of penny pinching).
John Longmire in addition to looking after thr forwards is also currently assistant coach in charge of the rucks.Comment

2nd year blues?
Completely overuses the football through simply being a lair.
But how many weeks was he out for with his hammy problems? The guy just isn't fit.
Canberra for a couple of weeks would do him the world of good. He just isn't up to AFL standard fitness wise at the moment. Hence his confidence is shot.
Monty is definitely better than him at the moment. He gives us something up forward at least.

Doyle did ok, he will be a better ruckman when we get a decent midfield. Currently we seem to concede defeat at centre bounces and let the opposition take it away with a quick kick to their half forward line, then hopefully we get possesion and run it out. Until we get a quality midfielder who is capable of getting centre breaks, not like Jude Bolton, who seems content with just diving on the ball and creating another bounce, but one who can actually get it going in our direction, we will only ever be a middle of the road side. We have one of the most potent forward lines in the AFL, but because we are not getting centre breaks, the opposition backmen are under no immediate pressure.Comment

And if we sack him, what then - I'm sure that ?? club will give us their no1 ruck to use for next year.....
We won't get a no1 ruck and have to breed our own! Doyle is 1 - 2 year off being fair to good with potential. He is growing shorter.
what he suffers from is that the swans can't play in the wet or windy conditions problem. Too many fair weather training days, therefore we don't train the way we have had to play. That has been noticable for the least few games..
How to get over it (more rain in Sydney - nah ain't going to happen) So we have to call them in on wet and windy days to train. Totally different training can't hear, ball floats over the top or drops short. The ball skids along the ground. etc. We don't have that skill set. Either train for those conditions when possible or live with it!
Hopefully September is fine and we will have a chance!

I've been very disappointed with Doyle this season, but Meiklejohn has looked even worse, so getting rid of Doyle would be a dangerous move. You just can't pick up ready-made young ruckmen in the draft, with the possible exception of Mott.
Frankly, I'd have Fixter, Fosdike, O'Loughlin, Maxfield, Ablett, McVeigh and others ahead of Doyle to leave, as they'd simply be easier to replace/cover.Last edited by Donners; 19 July 2004, 10:44 AM.Comment

Doyle has to learn to bend. I wanted Ball in the ruck the last five mins I have more faith in him.
Wouldn't like to see Fixter, Fosdike, O'Loughlin, Maxfield, Ablett, McVeigh go.
Fixter is tops - just will need this year to get is fitness back. O'Loughlin was one I have said many time get rid of him. Every time I say that he does some fabulous grabs etc. Maxfield will go end of next season if he doesn't change his mind this season. Ablett is a good strong trier and will get there, McVeigh is up and down give till next season to strengthen up and obviously his brother will join him from Essendon I think.Love those SwansComment

if doyle is getting a clean tap it is up to our midfield to read that tap, its not just about putting the ball down the midfielders throat...
i love it how people have NFI on this board at times, doyle ****s on ball, as shown once again yesterday... he won more of the contest when he was in there than ball...

you know we are still in the top 8 :P
regarding doyle.... his biggest weakness to my mind is his inability to be anything but a dinosaur. He will be better when he takes over the number one rucking duties. But the swans could do with a ruckman like jeff white or someone capable of moving around the ground.Theres not much left to sayComment

evry one loves Jude cos he jumps around like a jack rabbit, but how about we get a bit of communication going between the ruck and the rover, then we might start to win a few decisive performances out of the middle.
Doyle could be ok if the rest of the middle is overhauled, and he gets enough time in there.Comment
