Maxfield ? Offering at best short bursts, which is not good enough for a key midfielder, let alone a captain. Pretty much back to 2000 form, which is not a good thing.
with no disrespect to o'keefe, ARE YOU SERIOUS? o'keefe is young and only going to get better, but to suggest that he has taken o'loughlins' role.....mick still commands a top defender, doesn't get in barry halls' way and his (often overlooked) disposal by hand is something other players can dream about attaining one day.

to each their own, opinions are opinions and i'm not trying to flame but that's my two cents worth on that.

      Basically, we should trade everyone.

Well, not really, but Fossie and Ablett seem to be the most popular choices.

Ablett(unless he can consistantly perform like he did in the Carlton game)

Fosdike, 2nd round pick to be on traded for Bradshaw!

Hunt, not worth keeping him around.

Powell, from all reports isnt lifting a finger in the ressies, at least offer him around as a potential and he may do something.

Not O'Loughlin nor Mathews or Crouch.

Maybe Sunqvist, we have midfielders aplenty.

Keep Saddo, may be very valuable with his marking as a midfielder.

So apart from ablett and fosdike, you would keep evry one of our senior players actually in the 1sts ?? well good luck with getting a premeirship that way.

Of course, well this is trade bait no one is going to pick up Warfe, apart from that we have a very good young team, there is no reason to let go of Crouch or Mathews, they are integral parts of the team.

Is the team good enough? An integral part of a team coming second is close but no cigar, my friend.

No we don't. St Kilda, Geelong and Melbourne do but we are just a middle of the road team with most of our good kids already in the seniors and pretty much no depth for the important positions. Also our midfield just isn't going to win us a premiership anytime soon. We have the makings of some good parts to a midfield but we just don't have that Michael Voss type to impact on matches, like it or not Jude and Willo aren't up to it and the longer we take to solve this the longer the fall will be because the defence as good as it is can't soak up this much pressure for too much longer.

I wish people would stop talking about getting players like Chris Judd, because he isn't available at any price and if he was available and we gave up the asking price to the Eagles he would have no one around him to make such a move worth while.

I think we have to make some very hard decisions.
Obviously we don't have the players that can win a premiership at the moment.

So we have to do what we can to get those players. Whether that means trading players that we see as an integral part of the team or not remains to be the case.

Every player is tradable if the right deal presented itself.

Players that are tradable? Everyone, but the following players can be replaced in the respective positions by other players in the side:

                  Luke Abett
                  Amon Buchanan
                  Jared Crouch
                  Nick Davis
                  Stephen Doyle
                  Ben Fixter
                  Nic Fosdike
                  Heath James
                  Nick Malceski
                  Ben Matthews
                  Scott McGlone
                  Jarrad McVeigh
                  James Meiklejohn
                  Matthew Nicks
                  Ryan O'Keefe
                  Mark Powell
                  Lewis Roberts-Thompson
                  Aaron Rogers
                  Jason Saddington
                  Adam Schneider
                  Jarrad Sundqvist

(Not saying all these players should go. I am saying they can be replaced by someone else in the side. That player may also be in that list, but they are in that list for the same reasoning. Obviously we would not get rid of both of them if that be the case.)

That means the only players that I think cannot be replaced are:

                  Jude Bolton (lack of options)
                  Leo Barry
                  Craig Bolton (lack of options)
                  Adam Goodes
                  Barry Hall
                  Tadhg Kennelly (potential)
                  Brett Kirk
                  Michael O'Loughlin
                  Andrew Schuable

Kids that are still undecided on or doing well in seniors:

                  Paul Bevan
                  Matthew Davis
                  Sean Dempster
                  Andrew Eriksson
                  Tim Schmidt
                  Joshua Thewlis
                  Josh Willoughby

Players that would have little trade value:

                  Jason Ball
                  Paul Williams
                  Stuart Maxfield
                  Rowan Warfe

                  Just a thought....

I realize it is a hypothetical list, and the list included a large number of players, but I would argue that this year has shown that we don't have a ready replacement for Nicky D. Pebbles has come on well as a HFF, but plays very differently to Nicky D on the HFF.

Edit: Oh just ignore me, that is so picky!
I knew him as a gentle young man, I cannot say for sure the reasons for his decline
We watched him fade before our very eyes, and years before his time

just if we want good players have to give a team something reasonable and crouch would be someone others want... would have to be a good player mind you!!! but for the right deal anyone could be traded

Here's my view, its not easy

This is done on the assumption that we are not targetting any big names such as Ottens, if so we may have to lose a quality player or 2

                            Luke Abett Trade/delist
May not have done enough to keep his spot, minimal trade value

                            Amon Buchanan Keep
                            Saved his career

                            Heart and soul

                            Nick Davis keep
                            no more injuries please!

                            Stephen Doyle Must keep
desparately need him to realise his potential

                            Ben Fixter Keep/possible trade
one of my faves but injuries against him

                            Nic Fosdike keep/possible trade
trade only if the right deal came along - not an integral player

                            Heath James keep
minimal trade value and has shown enough to persevere with, 2005 will be last chance though

                            Nick Malceski keep
                            showed enough before injury

                            James Meiklejohn delist/possible rookie
don't know why they upgraded from rookie just can't see him making it, would retain as back up if ball retires

                            Matthew Nicks keep
had him gone 3 months ago, has saved his career with 2004 performances, looks like the kick up the bum has done him good

doesn't seem to fit into Roos plans, suprised that he's gone backwards this year
think we could snare a draft pick for him from someone

                            Future CHB

send him back to rookie list for another season 2005 crunch season for him

                            Jason Saddington keep
redeemed himself when shifted from CHB, not tradable due to our lack of quality talls

                            Tadhg Kennelly keep
gone backwards a bit this year, but a swan for life

                            Brett Kirk keep

Sadly I just don't think he'll ever become the player we thought he would become when we drafted him. So we should put him out there and hope for a bite while he still has some value. Has shown a bit in the last few weeks and if we can't trade him away I wouldn't be too upset if we kept him on the list for next season.
                                Jason Ball - Keep
The club MUST do all it can to talk him into playing on next season, otherwise his loss might just send us right down the ladder until we get in place a replacement. Still has what it takes to play ruck, despite no longer being able to rest up forward and kick a few goals.

Done enough to prove that he was worth the second chance and maybe has overtaken Schneider as our best small forward.

Talk of trading him on here is just that - TALK. You don't trade players like Crouch. His role in the side is far more important than people give him credit for.

Considering the lack of depth we have in the ruck, to trade Doyle would be a HUGE mistake.

Look the time has come with Nic to just bite the bullet and say "we made a mistake". He needs a new start and we need a midfielder who makes more of an impact.

Unfairly blamed for losses during the "4 in a row" early in the season. Showed good signs early on and god knows we need as many tall defenders as we can get.

Its a tough call on the kid, but we need to open up at least four spots on the senior list. I would however redraft via the rookie list, because he has shown some good form in the seconds.

How about putting him on a rolling one year contract, because he has shown alot since coming back, so is at least worth a spot on the list for next season.
