While the 2nd q unpiring hurt us bad, we will always be on the receiving end while we play this defensive midfield.
AFL is not a tackle based game like rugby, and as such the rules in general favour the play maker, not the tackler. Which is great.

We are never going to go far with a defensive midfield, and by association a ruckman like Ball. Hes been great, but wont take us to a flag.
We should poach Everitt and Crawford. Everitt (if he still has any desire) in combination with Doyle would be great, and get rid of Matthews and have Crawford in the middle.
I know its short term thinking, but they are they type of centre combination we need. (So not neccesarily those particular players, but those types of players are required)

It is unbelievably short term thinking. Neither of these two would have more than two or three years left in them.

If we were going to give everything bar the kitchen sink to the Hawks I'd rather we went after their no 1 draft pick with a view to picking a player like Deliedo (sp?). The Hawks won't part with this - and nor should they - but it would be a far better proposition for the Swans.

I really don't like moaning about umpires but the amount of times where we deserve a free kick inside forward 50 and isn't paid, and the result is a goal up the other end is starting to s... me!
You cannot tell me that umpires don't check stats at half time either. I think Kennedy paid 3 free kicks to us for scragging at stoppages early in the 3rd term, and that smacks of evening it up to me.

I cannot fathom how Barry and Magic get molested all day and never get a free kick, yet the majority of forwards get free kicks for incidental contact.

Barry Hall is practically molested at every marking contest, yet never looks like getting a free kick.

The way the second or third man blocks his run is called shepherding, and I reckon everyone agrees it would be paid to Lloyd every day of the week.

PS: I love how Essendon are getting smacked.

PPS: Isn't amazing how Sheedy continues to be re-signed in the middle of the season when Essendon are crap!

Lizz. Everitt and Crawford are just examples of what we need playing for us right now if we are to be a threat. I dont care if we get them (meaning those types) through the draft or whereever.

We will never be a serious contender while we play a defensive midfield. Competitive yes, premier no.
So this year its time to clean the decks. Ball is about finished. We need to get rid of one of Matthews or Crouch.

On the umpires, I am very glad to see they are clamping down on players just taking the tackle. Its been a bug bear of mine for a while. Now all we need is them to look at shepparding of the marking contest.

I hope Schuab goes back to umpires coach. Sack the Geish.

Yes I think we do get a raw deal, but you know i have been saying that for many years come on now!!!!! if we are good enough, decisions do not matter, every other team has those decisons at some time,,, just so sick of excuses!!! and yes If I were as young as a lot of you, I would agree that the umpires cost us games,,, but how long do we keep blaming umpires???

We continue to point the finger at umpires for as long as they continue to influence matches. Simple.

It's not rocket science. Define the rules. Then find umpires who will apply them accurately to both sides.

They influence games, but they are not the reason we have lost any of our games.

We lost against Essendon because we let them get 7 goals in front before we decided to start playing properly.

We lost to Geelong because we let them get about half a dozen goals in time on in the 3rd and 4th qtrs.

We lost against Freo because we played poorly.
