    Maxfield

Cant believe people are saying he played well,he got it alot but did absolutely nothing with it besides turning it over, the goal he missed in last quarter should be a gimme to someone of his experience.Imo he should not be captain next year as i dont think hes output is good or great enough to warrant it,any oppinions?

Pathetic performance from maxfield. Very very poor decision making with Blind kicks galore straight to the loose man down back.

He wasn't alone though. Guess we can say goodbye mr luke ablett.

Gave the ball away too many times but wasn't the only culprit.

Well Daniel - I'll give you my opinion - dunno if you'll like it!

I thought he led us well but was wasteful with his disposal but a lot of those were under extreme pressure.

Just checked his stats 16 kicks 6 handballs - not a bad day on the face of it. I know the one you mean in the last 1/4 but he was 'under the hammer'.

Finding our next captain will be tough but I reckon there are only 3 choices:
        Adam Goodes
        Jude Bolton
        Tadhg Kennelly.

        Your thoughts?

I'm willing to bet good money that Ablett will be there next year. Don't forget the age of Maxfield and Willo.

I cant agree how can you lead a team well when probably at least half of your possesions goto the opposition.I like Stuey but think hes a bit past it.You say he was under the hammer,i saw many a docker under the hammer kick goals today and surely a man who has that much experience should be used to it,and should thrive on it.Maxfields delivery for mine was his best part of his game and without that well.... as for our next captain it has to be out of Goodes,Kirk and as a roughy Hall as i think he would love the role and play it in a similiar manner to Neitz.

Stuey may retire : I think he's had a very respectable second half to the season , though wonder if it's a case of the light burning brightest , just before it goes out.

Does he show leadership ? Yes - surely his running and raking kicks are his taciturn method of saying "Stop poncing about - go direct and attack".
Yes he made a few bad disposals , including one which led directly to a goal, but his gutsy effort was exemplary.

As for missing a goal in the last quarter : well , he's a veteran who's spent nearly two hours sprinting around the biggest pitch in the league.
I'd be worn out after just two minutes at Subiaco.

If you want to single out a player who had a lot of it , but did virtually nothing , why not cite Jude Bolton's first half performace ?
Haven't seen it yet , but I guarantee JB will be on our best list on afl.com.au, purely due to his number of disposals.
And IMO , he does not deserve to be.

And Kirk should be the next captain.

Where is his running skills he picks up the ball runs kicks it to opposition,i could do that.Maxfield has been a great player but re-signing him recently was a poor decision its his year to go IMO.Its time to have a captain again who can really influence a game, not play well once in a while and get away with poor skills. The fact Stuey is captain and older than most means he has less exscuses than most if you ask me.

I agree Daniel on his disposal. For a player of his experience his decision making skills this year have been ordinary. He gets the pill a lot, no doubting that, but why he kicks it wide instead of to Barry is beyond me. I wonder whether the coach ever says anything to him. It also frustrates me because he gets on his own with regular monotony, well clear, yet stuffs up so often

Mind you he is not alone in his poor decision making.

As a fair minded Collingwood supporter I am happy to give an unbaised view on some of the subjects raised in the posts above.

                        (1) Maxfield is an inspirational leader whose value to the team is greater than the disposals he wins and how he uses them. He is perhaps the only swans midfielder who consistently delivers the ball well to the forwards.

                        (2) Luke Ablett will be retained next year, but will need to show marked improvement to stay beyond that.

                        (3) Kirk will be a future swans captain, but not next year.

                        (4) Weren't the magpies brilliant tonight!!!!!!!!!!

You goose, any Swans supporter will tell you no one delivers the ball well to our forwards. The Captain is no better or worse than the rest of them.

Nico, I disagree with your view of Maxfield. His goal today from 60 metres out is testiment to his ability. Given that your only real forward option is regularly triple-teamed, this means that Maxfield is often forced to seek out better opportunities which occasionally leads to inaccuracy in his delivery. But generally his kicking to targets is very good.

PS Bad form to bag your captain.

PPS. Hello anniswan. Don't pretend not to be impressed with Collingwood tonight.
