Barry Hall appears to be the victim of umpires treating him like the bad guy. Does the Swans forward deserve what he gets or is he the victim of ill-conceived bias? Who else gets the wrong end of the stick from the umps? Who gets treated too well?

Jeez if a melb newspaper is asking this question how bad must it be??[I]

I posted a reply and I think everyone should. Or are you all not team players and have a touch of the CBFs? Or do you prefer arguing on here amongst yourselves about who is a **** player and who isn't? Perhaps do something positive for once... might just relieve some of that built up stress.

Here is what I had to say:

Barry Hall does get a raw deal from the umpires. His opponents infringe against him each week, but the umpires mostly seem to ignore these infringements. Yet the same leniency is not applied to anything that Barry Hall does. The prescribed penalties in the rules should be applied with equality and consistency to ALL players, even those players who are this week's opponents of Barry Hall.

Barry Hall is probably not the only victim here. Neitz and Gehrig are other players similar to Barry Hall that may also get discriminated against.

It seems everyone is of a similar opinion that Barry gets raw deal, and it seems that opinion is universally agreed upon by the experts too. Wonder when the umpires will twig.

Here's the piece I wrote in.

The umpires are intimidated by Barry Hall and treat him as such, then they penalise him in the misguided attempt to keep control of a situation. Obviously, if they paid him the frees he deserves and are warranted on occasions, this would be a better way of keeping control of the game. Also, Barry Hall would feel less aggrieved when a free does go against him, because he'd realise that rules of the game are administered evenly. The way things are going Barry Hall will end up reported and suspended soon, all his work in controlling his aggression for the last two seasons will count for nought and the blame will be squarely at the feet of the umpires and their coaching staff. Maybe Jeff Geishen's umpires memo this week should read, all players are equal under the rules of the game, regardless of height, weight or notoriety.

Yeah I will admit to plagerism (sp?) I just didn't have the energy to re write something that I totally agreed with.
