But that's the point, isnt it. We get shafted week-in, week-out with the penalties that really count. Hall gets sweet FA, and then at the other end of the ground the opposition gets a gimme.

If only everyone was as noble as Shaun Hart and muffed their kicks!

Slightly off topic but I think the boundary umpires have to hit the weights hard over the preseason. The throw ins are so short.

Or they could take a hint from one of the boundary umpires on Saturday and take a few steps in from the line to ensure the throw-ins weren't falling short.

I know I must be a softie as I felt sorry for Hart when that happened. I was right behind the goals and that was a definite free kick to him. It was karma for his team for the other dodgy frees they got. Pity it was him who fluffed the kick as I don't mind him as a player.

The radio commentators said something about that, they reckoned it was because the ground was slippery and they couldn't keep their balance.

Can't agree with you there AA, there are about 20 odd holds like that every game, you rarely see the umpire pay 'em. If they are going to pay that one then what about the rest. I loved Kennelly's reaction after that one ("you gunna pay those down the other end"!!!!!). Kennelly got a similar hold trying to run the ball out of defence not a minute later................ no free kick.

I know I am stating the obvious that Patrick Smith of The Australian is an idiot. On SEN yesterday a Swans fan rang up and complained about the umpiring.Smith admitted he had barely seen any vision of the last 3 games. So today he writes about umpiring and bags Colless.Saying the umpiring is neither biased nor incompetent. If decisions are not consistent then the umpires are incompetent. But Patrick wouldn't know because he doesn't watch the footy.
He quoted that ridiculous figure the AFL use of 87% of all decisions are correct. You can only use that figure if every player is monitored for the whole game so you can see the holding off the ball and the blocking that goes on.

Well it seems that Colless will be fined, I'm taking this as good news.

                      Excellent point Barry!

Why dont some of these idiots in the media actually have a look at some of the contentious decisions such as Kent Kingsley's gimme in front of goal or Craig Bolton's 'mark' against Essendon versus Barry being ridden rodeo style by a Bulldogs defender.

When sees the decisions Barry Hall receives and compares that to what happens at the of the ground and then does so over 18 weeks, one is free to draw one's own conclusions.

If it happened once (such as the Essendon game) - you would say they had a bad day. When it consistently happens every week - the only logical reason is that they are biased against him.

Rowan Sawers - you are a Nimrod! Look at the footage and give us some explanations instead of defending the umpires ad nauseam.

The Swans get a bad run and his response is to worry about umpiring at grass roots level.

I know why they use that figure - its the devil's number of australian cricket . 13 away from a century.

must be some parallel between umpires and the devil!
