Gerard Healy was a champion player at our club and deserves a bit more respect than your giving him,absolute gentleman to meet and if at all possible he would of kept on playing footy but was advised if he re injured the wrist it would give him trouble for the rest of his life,footy is only a game.Healy is also a great supporter and ambassador for our club and can quite often be heard telling his fellow comentators not to write of his swannies.

Archer is a great example of a player playing through pain and managing an injury as best as possible through expert medical advice and leading the club through onfield deeds in the time of need.

The guy could have retired last year at 31/32, but decided to play on through unimaginable pain for the BENEFIT of the CLUB, as his example ( and Leigh Colbert's ) will show the way for the current defenders and therefore they will then show the way to the next batch of defenders.

Archer's hand will heal in time and be back to 90 per cent mobility, so the medical experts to have told him so.

Which brings us back to Healy, who took the money and ran at 29 when the club was on it's knees and looking at Healy and the like to try to hold the club together through on-field leadership. Instead, it was left to the old firm of Carroll, Wright, Murphy and Carter to try and steady the good ship Sydney Swans Football Club.

And to think Archer's bone was sticking out of skin when the injury happened, whereas Healy's wrist injury was all of a sudden and never given an exact game and time.....

At least Healy didn't help in the demise the swans in a match the year after he retired. I don't dislike Cressa a bit for working with Geelong, but under your reasoning, he should be banned from the club.

I can't believe how much you dislike Healy.

Players leave clubs for a lot of reasons.

Our very own coach left a club when THEY REALLY needed him, and played for us.

I think Healy's reasons for retiring were fine and he has been a supporter since.

Healy advised himself, due to his knowledge in the physiotherapy field. Easy to do when the club is down, shortly to have no money and a lucrative career in the media awaits !

Footy is ONLY a game, although someone should have told that to Paul Kelly after his 24th operation at the age of 29....

P.P.S. Numerous doctors advised Lance " 6 times Tour de France winner " Armstrong that his testicular cancer was inoperable and that he would basically die within 4-5 months. But Armstrong would not lie down easily and consulted every cancer specialist possible until offered hope and a chemo program that would not render him useless if cured.

My point - If Healy wanted to play again and try and assist the club from financial and onfield ruin, he would have done the utmost in medical consultation to get his wrist right - or at least stayed at the club in an administrative capacity.

But no, back to Melbourne and the limelight of a Brownlow Medalist struck down in the prime of his career ra ra ra.

Respect your right to an opinion but you are talking rubbish and obviously just dont like Gerard,ive spoken to him and unless he was lieing he said he did do everything possible to play on,it wasnt just the wrist but also a groin injury,i know i dont know all the facts do you,what are your sources?

Ex-players can do what they like once there playing careers are over and there careers have run the term.

Fitzroy were happy to get the best for Roos, and themselves, as they knew he deserved a future at another club before he retired and they were a year or two from merging.

I don't dislike Healy, I just believe that fellow Swans fans shouldn't be so red-eyed when talking about great players from our past and need to know how Healy jumped ship in a time of need.

Healy was a fantastic player, either through his own deeds or with assistance from Greg Williams, but let's not be so stupid to ignore the fact that he abandoned the club in a time of need.

Why would you sacrifice full use of your hand just so you can play an extra couple of years of football. I think that just goes to show that Archer (for example) is not that smart. The doctor's think 90% - which is not great to start with - but what if they;'re wong?

If I was in Healy's position, I would have done exactly the same thing, as most people would.

There is more to life than playing sport.

BTW - Healy's injury wasn't all of a sudden. He had suffered wrist problems for his last two seasons.

Serviceable. Did okay but nothing spectacular. Again, many of his disposals are not particularly damaging or do not hit targets. He is a useful contributor, but not a star. Also, he had only 10 possessions after quarter time and he hardly set up the win with his 10 possessions in the first quarter.
