Are St.Kilda not allowed to enjoy Plugger's contribution to them because he jumped ship?

Are old Fitzroy fans not allowed to enjoy Roos memory because he took the money and ran to Sydney?

Healy retired after serving us very well. There are some players we have recruited over the years that have done nothing for us. he did his share and should be remembered for it.

we are all fans and pretty passionaite to actually be here right .. and most of us have bagged the team at some stage i know i have... hes just doing his job and was a great player when he played

Healy retired after serving us very well. There are some players we have recruited over the years that have done nothing for us. he did his share and should be remembered for it.

Roos should be taken way out of this comparison given the Roys were up for getting rid of him at the end of 1990. It was either him or Pert for Collingwood and Perty was the unlucky one shafted. Could just as easily have been Roosy and that was in the back of his mind for 4 years.

As for Gerard, well Cressakel or whatever you call yourself, mate no one gives more to the game than Gerard. He's one of the great ambassadors for the 2 clubs he bled for and the AFL as a commentator, All-Australian team selector and International Rules panel member. No matter what team he follows, Gerard's credibility is in tact!

He also hosts the best issue driven footy show on TV with On The Couch so your criticisms need to be made in context to his contribution to the game.

I'll tell you why !

I am sick of witnessing imcompetent administrations, players leaving the club because of bad administration or lack of money or no passion ( read: Healy ), players dictating who coaches the club and crap coaches ( Buckenara, Eade ).

If the Sydney Swans continued to adminster as bad as they did from 1982 to 1994, which in turn led to the likes of Healy, Williams and Mitchell to leave, then there will be no forum as such to comment on all things Sydney Swans - as THERE WILL BE NO SYDNEY SWANS !

Don't forget that the Sydney Swans were a couple of Presidents/CEO's away from being thrown out of the comp for good in 1993, except for the stellar work of Peter Weinart and since that time, Richard Colless.

Healy only made the situation worse for the club by leaving at such a young age in the prime of his career with a perceived soft injury which the Melbourne media at the time picked up on and ran with the story that he left the club in a time of need, which in turn snowballed our diabolical financail situation and poor adminstration.

Maybe I am being very very harsh on Healy ( I have a very long memory ), but imagine the abuse and ridicule directed at Healy and other deserts ( players, administrators and coaches included )if the club folded in 1993.

From little things ( Healy leaving ) big things ( Swans plight )grow - particularly if you are the first team out of Melbourne in the biggest city in Australia.

Could you imagine the bad press a player of 29 years of age with a wrist injury and a club in administrative and financial ruin would get in this day and age of Fox Footy, SEN, The Footy Show etc etc ?!

Cressakel is a combined name for my favourite two players, Daryn Cresswell and Paul Kelly - what about the TheHood ?!

I don't give a rats toss bag what Healy is doing these days in comparison to the fact that he left the Swans at 29 at the peak of his career when we were down and out and in need of strong leaders of the calibre of Healy.

Mark Harvey is universally respected as an astute Assistant to Kevin Sheedy, not to mention expert commentator on the game, but at the time Healy left the Swans Harvey was a Keilor Park thug, constant drink driver and rat bag. I know this fact, if daniel f is asking, due to my association with Keilor Park Football & Cricket Clubs over 20 years.

Harvey has matured and so has Healy, as I have mentioned he is an excellent commentator and ambassador of the game, but the fact is at 29 he dissapointed and let down a lot of teammates, supporters and administrators of the Swans and the AFL in a time of need for the Sydney Swans Football Club.

I asked where you were getting your facts about Healy not what you knew about Mark Harvey how did he come into it?He may have let some of the supporters down[i wasnt one of those],but i dont think any of his teammates or Swan officials would of felt any sort of malice towards him whatsoever,as was mentioned earlier in this thread he was one of the ol boys who was out on the S.C.G singing the song late into the night back in 96,and i believe is a valued member of the club.

IMO only Healy himself knows the reasons behind why he left footy at an early age. You're a long time retired from the elite level and I'm sure it's a decision he thought long and hard about. Ultimately, people look out for number one and he, by "jumping ship" or simply making a life choice did this.

I'd always been luke warm towards him due to how I read his comments on the Swans, but my Sister suggested I really listen to him and after I did, I think he doesn't want the biased tag thrown at him. And given the roles he has carried out I don't blame him.

I think this one we all have an opinion on and will never agree totally with each other.

Not knowing the extent of the injury I would say that Healy as a physio would have known the long term consequences if he had continued to play.I don't think you can compare injuries in different eras as medical science has improved and continues to improve astromomically.

Healy played with a very bad groin for some time. Wore a brace around the family jewels to try to hold it all together and played under some duress. Probably caused by Hafey flogging them on track.

Williams and Healy were a great combination with Williams getting in and under and feeding it out to Healy. Takes a top player to know where to run consistently and no one was better making space than Healy, in his time. Healy was great at putting his body on the line in marking contests and consistently backed into packs and filled "the hole".

I can't believe Healy simply "gave it away" given that if he was able to continue he would have had 3 years left, and for the times a very lucrative contratc in the offering.

On Mitchell. Very overrated player IMO, who got the stats by running behind the backmen for handpasses, fell on the ball in packs and could not kick to save himself. Very selfish footballer.

Now there was a player who deserted the ship. He knew he was going well before he left.

Healy retired on the advice of at least 3 doctors. To blame his retirement on what happened in Oct 1992 is both foolish and wrong. If anything his retirement SAVED the club at least $200,000.

Don't know what the TV audience thought of it all Luffy. Have never heard commentators actually start barracking on a telecast before.
