The guernseys on the AFL auction site look great - but I seem to have missed where the money goes to ? Is it for player development or straight into the AFL coffers ??

Looks like we got off lucky price-wise. I picked up one at the game for $100, but The Boss has to shell out $140 for the Geelong version.

177th Senior AFL Match - Round 4, 2009 - Sydney vs Carlton, SCG. This is obviously out of date. I suppose I'll update it once I could be bothered sitting down with the fixture and working it out....

Why did they let the umps wear white? I know it was heritage but the lack of contrast was shocking.

It was their black socks that didn't do it for me. I thought the nickerbockers were kind of comic.

But if they are going to have a fair dinkum heritage round they have to have the guernseys made out of real old style fabric, preferably with lace-ups. Having fake laces like on Geelongs and North's synthetic guernseys just doesn't do it for me.

Just on our heritage guernseys, do you think if it were better if the red v came around the back of the guernseys at the back kind of like a bib (or the Roosters NRL top)? The Vs kind of stopped at the shoulders.

I reckon the goal umps should go back to the hats and coats - way better than the long sleeve shirts and baseball caps. At least keep a bit of tradition in the game!

                      jules,

the lace ups were canned years ago because players were getting their fingers caught in them during tackles. i think melbourne robbie flower comes to mind......

Yup that's me - enjoying is an interesting word - I can never truly enjoy it until we're 10 goals ahead - even when I watch the replays I'm terrified we're gonna blow it!
