Man I wish our whole team had skills like that boy. I've finally managed to watch the game last night/this morning, and that pick-up of his in the forward 50 where he gave it off to O'Keefe was sublime (maybe not worthy of its own thread, but hey, I'm feeling like you all were on Sunday!)

It was a ****ty game for me to miss, and and even crappier weekend to be in SA (I felt so isolated and alone in my love of the Swans, and that was after I finally managed to find out the score on Sunday morning...)

As for this week, I hope James manages to keep his spot in the team, even though he didn't do all that much on Saturday night, and would love to see Nicky D back. Does anyone know if Buchanan actually did break his nose, and if he'll play if he did. He looked good out there on Saturday.

Also, does anyone know if the Roberts-Thomson that plays for Sturt is any relation to out own LRT? Or maybe I just got his name wrong...

I thought it was a fantastic piece of play - it's nice to see some of our players demonstrate such fantastic skills.

i've said it before but..... disposal like that is a grossly underrated part of mick's game. his vision is something that can't be taught. if only he could stay in one piece........

the problem has been oloughlin can go missing at times. He is occasionally well below his best. But he is one of the most skillful players in the league. He does some freaky things... and when he fires the team usually wins

Mick remains our Ace in the deck. He certainly can go missing, but he has the capacity to win the game of his own efforts. I believe its a confidence thing with Mick, and his belief that another injury is just around the corner.

Maybe Goodesy's injuries may help Mick realise that he can still play at his peak at the right time in the right place.

Micks second efforts were amazing on saturday. For someone who didnt train at all on Thurday, he was outstanding. Watchin him throw his body into 1%ers was awesome. He will be back to top form very soon as his confidence continues to grow.

Plus we always have to remember that his hammy's are holding on by a thread (pardon the pun). The way he twists and turns must be having an enormous effect on his knees as well.

Sure is - they're cousins. Top bloke as well - gave me a lift to Footy Park for the Port game last year along with LRT's Dad.

The only time he goes missing is when he is under done. It is no coincidence that when Micky's fitness is right we win games.

It's been suggested to me that the Swan's should sell injury prone O'Loughlin while he's still worth some $. I know that's a tough decision to make and take, but I'm inclined to agree.

Ballsy, very ballsy.
..but if we are going to participate in the trade period we have to have something to tempt other teams with.

IMO our 'sub-key' forwards (MOL, O'Keefe and Davis) are probably the only area we can afford to lose class from. Davis isn't going anywhere, O'Keefe is still gaining value - so MOL is a genuine possibility.

The economics of dumping

Trying to separate myself from the fact that Micky O'Loughlin is, of himself, a pretty good reason to go to the footy every week, I don't think it's likely to make sense to trade him.

Any club that he's traded to will be acutely aware of his age and the fact that he's injury-prone, and his value in the market will be significantly depreciated by these things.

But, you say, those things apply at Sydney as well, so surely we'll get exactly what he's worth? Nope, once you bear in mind the following issues:
a) the risk that a new club is taking that he'll miss a large part of his first year or two with injury and then just retire, and/or not gel with the existing team structure. Sydney knows that he works well with the current forward set-up, (presumably) gets along with his teammates and is unlikely to allow a half-season injury to prompt retirement at the moment.
b) even if injury doesn't occur, the risk is higher for an older player that relocation and adjusting to a new coach/new regime will have an adverse effect on his form and will to play.

There have been the Schwattas and Paul Williamses who in the last few years of their career have been revitalised by a move to a new club; but they're significantly outnumbered by the Dermies, Ronnie Burnses and Tony Modras who have bombed. So to put it in nerd-speak, the transaction cost that the buyer will have to bear will mean that the seller gets a relatively poor deal.

And what's so wrong with playing your whole career at the one club, anyway?

You could not get what he is worth as his type of player is the icing on the cake not the flour, I love MO and would not trade him at any cost as players like him are as rare as hens teeth.
