AFL Players consider Roos to be 2nd best coach

I don't know if this has been posted already, but Roos was considered the 2nd best coach in the AFL (behind Leigh Matthews) by the players. There was a large difference between Matthews and Roos, but he still got a fair percentage of the votes (17%).

He has done so well with Carlton.

don't think Pagan has done the right thing in view of the long-term list management and Collins is not over happy with him given the money he is on.

Not sure how he could have done that considering he has been allowed a couple of picks over the past few years.

        Done a brilliant job.

Collins is happy with him, just not happy with $800,000 a year.

Pagan is proving me wrong after I criticised him heavily last year.

The big influx of player's last year was never expected to net 11 good players. It HAS netted Stevens, Scotland, Johnson, Morrell, Teague and McGrath, who will give good value. Harford, Bowyer, Clarke, Mott and perhaps Bannister aren't going to take them further. But six of eleven is good work.

Great to see Roosy's respect extends outside the Swans. Worth noting that players couldn't vote for their own coach, so that 17% is made up entirely of votes outside the club.

McGrath will be ordinary, only two worth mentioning they have recruited are Stevens and Scotland, Teague will be serviceable. And believe me, privately Collins is not a huge fan of Pagan, and he thinks Fevola has a lot to prove as well.

If McGrath plays 50 games, then he will be good, middle-range value.

The two we're ignoring are Walker (who will be a star) and DeLuca (who will be useful in a similar fashion to McGrath).

The fact is, it's a good first step towards reconstructing the list. There's still a fair way to go, but the Blues would have known that before now.

Iam sure Pagan is losing sleep over Collins, I personally think Pagan has started Carlton on the right track and if Collins cant see that then he better have a hard look at himself and where he sees the future of the club. Its always easier being President you dont have to live by the decisions you make.

I think Roos has done a good job and looks set for a bright future for now anyway, I still would of preferred Wallace but at the end of the day I would give 100% to anyone who coached the Swans.

My interpretation: Outside Matthews, it was just a popularity contest.

I wouldn't have Wallace as a gift (if he hasn't learnt from his time with the Dogs) and am profoundly relieved we got Roos.
He reminds him of the guys, close-set, slow, and never rattled, who were play-makers on the team. (John Updike, seeing Josh Kennedy in a crystal ball)

Roos has more substance than Wallace who is arrogant, vain and all about himself.

Even though I would have tolerated the board's decision, I wouldn't have liked Wallace becoming coach of Sydney two years ago.

I think Roos has been a far better choice,

He has the respect of the players, I assume the Board, The Media(most of the time) , and his adversaries from the other AFL clubs.

                              And most importantly his fans!!!!

                              Go Roos, (not the Kangaroos)!!!!
