Damien, I think we are another year and a half away from knowing whether the 5 year plan Roos has is going to work.

Truth is, most of the pieces have already been put in place with us drafting a number of young kids in the last couple of years from retaining our draft picks. We will only be able to say yes or no after players like McVeigh, Dempster, Malceski, Thewlis, Scmidtt, Willoughby and Davis are at the point where they have played 20 to 30 games.

The one last part of the plan as far as I can see it, is to draft a mature age KP defender to help bolster the back ranks. If a suitable one can be found it will be at the end of this year.

After that we sit, wait and see if the talent we have is good enough to take us where we want to go. A realistic chance of premiership in 2007.

I Realise a so called 5 year plan (The 5 year plan thing I have always found strange seeing Roos is only signed to the end of 2005) will take time, but my problem is that I just don't see the foundations at all at this stage.

With star retirements due over the next year or so - the Swans are going to have to do some very smart recruiting so that a gaping hole is not left in our side.

But...hoping for the damn best, as I always have with this club...

It is in the lap of the players, and to a certain degree in that of the gods...on Saturday night's last quarter we do not deserve to play in the finals...on Saturday night's first three quarters we do...but, this is not a bad year to make the bottom half of the 8. It will look good in hindsight and in the record books to have made the finals, but I have no doubt that any team that finishes 5th to 8th will only be making up the numbers in reality and will exit in the first or second round...the premiers, I expect, will either be Port or Brisbane this year.
"Davis...Davis has kicked 2...he snaps from 40...dont tell me, dont tell me, hes kicked a goal....unbelievable stuff from Nick Davis, can you believe this, he's kicked 3 final quarter goals and Swans are within 3 points..."

Wasn't it a three year plan? The plan was to have us in a position to be considered legitimate flag contendors flag within 3 years

I cant see us having a hope of winning next week against the Dees. How on earth could you expect the team as a whole to have their minds on the job properly throughout this week so they can prepare properly.

The odds have been stacked against Sydney many a time before, and somehow they have come through. Yes it is going to be a very hard week for all concerned, but there would be no better way to put all this behind us then to give the Dees a touch up and get the finals campaign back on track (to the disgust of some )

Yep that is right actually Bart.

Can't see it happening at this stage, but who the hell knows with this group!

If we are there, at least it will be better than the likes of Collingwood,Carlton,Richmond,Hawthorn,Western Bulldogs,West Coast

Support the team in the good times and the bad, with the History of South Melb/Sydney any finals appearance is a blessing, and from there it is a whole new ball game. Just look at least season vs Port and 3/4 of the game vs the eventual premiers
Never give up in what you believe in
REAL supporters back their team whatever the situation.
Even though we may not be premiers this year the benefit
of playing in a final is good experience for all in the tream.

But, you never give give in, if the belief is there.

You play 22 game to get a chance to win the flag - the top 8 go for it. After 4 weeks we then know who the best team is. Any side can win 4 games in a row - I am for us to make the finals and have a go at wining 4 games! Finals have different pressures. WE always have a chance if we make the top 8 no chance if we don't.

Get Willo, Fixter and a little luck we could make it! Give it a go~!

                            Nothing to loose!

Try telling a club legend like Bob Skilton, who played just one final, that finals don't matter.

The optimists among us will believe that anything is possible, while even those who have written off our chances should realise the benefits of finals experience for the likes of Buchanen, Bevo, McVeigh etc.

any year we make the finals is good

finals are a different ball game...any experience is great especially for young players

even if we get flogged by 100 pts in week 1 at least the players get a taste of finals footy and a realisation of the level needed
