Media 'experts'...you've got to be kidding

Quote from Chammond a week or two back:
But again, that's only your opinion, which differs from mine, and apparently from the media "experts" who rated him very highly.
He then went on to explain to NMW, who had criticised J.Bolton's game against Freo, that his opinion was backed up by media 'experts' and was therefore more likely to be valid.

I see in this mornings Tele and Age (admittedly probably the same source) that the one and only J.Bolton is named first in the Swans best along with 5 others and no mention of Monty in the six best.

    Seriously, they are clearly kidding.

If anybody uses 'but the papers had him in the best' line to back up any player arguments, they should have message board privledges denied for 48 hours to make arrangements to obtain the clearly needed labotomy.

I noticed with amusement, and complete lack of surprise, that J Bolton was listed in the best players.

As I recall, the best 6 players listed for the Swans also happened to be 6 of the 7 highest possession getters!!

To further repeat myself (for which I apologise to everyone else) your opinion is no more valid than mine, or the journalists who rate Bolton.

And if you're going to use "cute" words like lobotomy to back up your tedious argument, then you should at least learn how to spell. Otherwise, God forbid, it may give the impression that you don't know what you're talking about.

I've stayed out of the Jude thing.

Some players work under the radar and do lots of good things we don't see via the coverage or set things up with un-noticed hand passes etc.

ut my perception is that he is a bit Buckleyesque in that he may get a lot of the ball but often doesn't do alot with it.
That may be a bit harsh on a reigning Brownlow medalist, but over Buckley's career, that is my perception of him.

Play in the midfield = automatic 25 posessions in my book.
That should be ann average game.
30 is good, and 35 is great.

Nobody maintained their opinion was more valid then anybody elses'.

You claimed as evidence at the time 'the media experts' backed you up, therefore you were correct.

Now rather than point out spelling mistakes, a sure sign you're under the pump, would you care to comment on J.Bolton being first named in the best for last weekend by the so-called 'media experts'?

It's not possible that a person could watch that game and rate Jude as the best Swans' player. It's just not possible.

Buchanan was sensational all night....great pick ups, wonderful tackling, 4 marks in F50 from his kicks (plus one to the Roos...ooops).

Hall was Swans best, for me, from Monty and Kirk and O'Loughlin. Lots of others showed a bit but were also very inconsistent....Barry, Goodes, Maxfield, both Boltons, O'Keefe, Ablett etc.

The Age actually goes...J. Bolton, Kirk, Mathews, Kenelly, Hall, O'Loughlin...

Mathews???????? Had almost no influence. 0 clearances, 2 good long kicks, one clanger kick, several instances of standing like a stunned mullet doing nothing with the ball before a nothing handball or kick to a throw in. And someone seriously suggests he had a better game than Hall and Buchanan. What a @@@@ing joke!

Same for me, plus I also though O'Keefe was useful. Rest were in and out.

Again, mainly based on number of possessions.

Can I say from being in the press box that the best is done as an afterthought in all of two seconds. You shouldn't really take too much into it.

After all, the AFL publicly conceded that the 2002 Norm Smith medal as given to the wrong player because they voted 10 minutes before full time.

Frontal lobotomy? I'd rather have a bottle in front o' me...
He reminds him of the guys, close-set, slow, and never rattled, who were play-makers on the team. (John Updike, seeing Josh Kennedy in a crystal ball)

Sorry, I've only just realised that you'd replied.

If I misinterpreted your original post, then I apologise. There are a number of children on this site who get their kicks by 'playing the man', and sometimes it irritates me.

As regards the 'media experts' bit, I was actually using Bolton's stats and the media listings to stir up NMW. He's always flinging stats at me, so I thought I'd get some of my own back. It has stirred up a few heated responses, but not from Nick, so I wasted my time!

The spelling is also a needle. From the way they write, the more abusive posters on this site are obviously children, and almost certainly young teenage boys. In my experience, nothing upsets a teenage boy more than having his shortcomings ridiculed in public.

I'm no particular fan of Jude Bolton . . . most of the time I don't even notice him during a game. I think he does his job well enough . . . he wins a lot of contested possession and his disposal is not as bad as it gets painted. I've got no doubt he's one of the first names on the board at selection time each week, simply because of his courage and determination.

As for the media experts . . . it doesn't make sense to lump them all together. Like any group of journos, some of them work hard and have their finger on the pulse, others are lazy and never look beneath the surface. Either way, I guess they're entitled to their opinions too.

Not when you've got an even primerer midfielder like Kirk.

I hardly ever noticed Cressa during the game, yet he would generally rack up a lazy 20-odd possessions. Especially when watching a game live at the ground, it can be very hard to notice who is at the bottom of the packs winning the hard ball.
