    Carried away.

Great result tonight, and depending on how the other results from the rest of the games turn out, we may just want to take a screen-shot of the ladder after Rd 1. I don't want to put a negative spin on things, bit there's still 21 Rds left. After tonight's effort though, some of the "experts" who were penning us in for the wooden spoon will feel like they have some junk on their faces. I guess we'll really know where things are at when we're playing the likes of BL, AC or Eddie's bunch (among others).

Its always great to beat the Blues, and that one was only one of the great things about tonight. I sure hope Doyle isn't too badly injured. It was great to find Bolton J's name up amongst the best.

We were just discussing that after the game actually. From my perspective, there were a lot of things to be pleased about, though I won't be predicting a flag just yet!! The skills definitely could still be sharpened, but the effort and general commitment was good to watch. Kudos to Jude Bolton - after all the bagging pre-season, I thought he was one of our best tonight

177th Senior AFL Match - Round 4, 2009 - Sydney vs Carlton, SCG. This is obviously out of date. I suppose I'll update it once I could be bothered sitting down with the fixture and working it out....

After my pre-game bagging of Greg Hobbs' match preview in the Record listing J Bolton as one of our hot players too for that matter!

      I'm on the Chandwagon!!!

If you cannot compete for the premiership, it's better to be young and exciting than middle-aged and dowdy.

Certainly an excellent all round performance by the guys. Couple of players were quiet - Stevens, for example, and Warfe, but they still contributed something.

However, adding to the "don't get carried away" theme, we need to remember it was only Carlton, and they were awful tonight, I thought. Their pressure skills were practically non-existent, and our guys got away with a fair few sloppy turnovers just because they were able to win the ball back so easily.

Still, you can only beat the team you face on the day, and to kick 22 goals with Bazza "only" contributing 4 has to be good. We are not wooden spooners on that evidence.

Hopefully Jude will be in a position to accept apologies from some here come year end.

Our lack of body strength will tell eventually but exciting nonetheless.

          Any news on the reserves?

I retract any bad words I had of Jude Bolton during the off season. I was impressed with the new guys - they did show something. Schnieder for one of the vice captain jobs...... Impressive! (Drop me if you can I think I heard him say on the way up the players race....... - Just kidding)

The reserves lost to Queenbean Approx 12 ?? to 6 ?? Only got there at the last 10 mn of the game .. Only saw McVeagh? Irish ruckman and Luke Ablett on the ground (need to brush up on my spelling)

Qbn kicked 6 goals inthe 2nd, Swannies saved face with a few late goals...

Micky O, fixter and Schauble to return - looking good

Any word on Doyle? Taken off had large ice pack on a knee????

Happy with the start - Keep it up.

                Don't get,

Let's face it Carlton are still a rabble in that they were never going to put any pressure on us if we got a reasonable distance in front.

All the positives were great but let's see how we go against some real opposition who can inflict some real pressure. The way we moved it forward in the last 3 q's was waaaayy too easy.

That said reading the press this morning no surprise to see everybody also concentrating on the poor Blues rather than the good Swans.
As Rod has put it several times, that's actually fine by me, let them continue to play us down, and let us continue to take them by surprise.

I think "don't get carried away" is good advice, given we also handily flogged Carlton last year (and JB was one of our better players that day too).

Still, I think there are some good signs (and some bad). The forward firepower is impressive. Doyle is very handy down there, as we've seen before. Hurt his knee in that snap around his body - hopefully nothing serious. Nicks looks like he's returned to some form, which is excellent. I think Davis has the makings of a star for us, if he plays to his strengths and plays smart.

Our midfield did well, but not against much competition, so we'll wait and see.

Crouch was absolutely fantastic all around the ground. Fosdike was also very handy.

Goodes was awesome and looks like he may have taken that next step.

What can you say about Willo...

Backline looks shaky. Barry needs to learn not to fly for the ball every single time. He makes me nervous every time he is near the ball - you never know quite what he'll do.

They also need to learn that not all of them need to fly in the pack. At times there were 4-6 players flying and no one staying down. Fortunately, with the midfield getting back to help that mitigates the tendency for everyone to fly somewhat.

Overall, I think it is a promising start to the season, particularly kicking 22 goals. However, Carlton will be lucky to win many games this season, and probably finish in the bottom 2, so let's see what happens through the rest of the season. Should be an interesting ride though...

So who is going to be left out?

I've been pondering that since last night.

Doyle out for O'Loughlin maybe, but what then?

Can't drop Schneider now. And the defence all played well.

                    O'Keefe? Stevens? C Bolton? Matthews?

Hardly fair. They didn't star, but they all contributed.

Could they do the unthinkable and drop Cressa??

leo had a really good game, in the first quarter he seemed like the only swan ready to play... im not a big fan of leo's but he did good

Warfe for Schauble, I'd have thought. Getting Schauble back in is a priority as soon as he's available just because of his height. Although he and Warfe play different roles, Bolton could probably take over from Warfe as the rebounding defender and Schauble play on a key forward.

Roos told us at the pre-season dinner that Fixter will probably resume for a couple of weeks in the twos, so the smaller players are probably safe for now.

O'Loughlin is a tricky one. There's no way you wouldn't put him in but its hard to see who would make way. Maybe the unlucky Stevens, but he needs to be given a few weeks to work his way into the team.

The match committee will certainly earn their money over the next week or two.

I actually thought that Warfe played okay. Admittedly only watching on the TV, but he appeared to do better on Fevola than Bolton did. His kicking isn't great, but he seemed to play within his limitations last night.

It won't do much for Stevens' development to leave him out, and Ablett and Sundqvist are going to need a run soon.

Maybe the AFL could give us a concession by letting us play 28 in our squad?

                            Reggi,

McVeigh was very good, probably our best, but his size will keep him back in the short term (for his own sake).

                            LRT good.

Ablett was OK. Just seems to be the type who won't star in the 2's but will handle the hustle and bustle of the seniors without a problem.

                            Sundquist handy without starring.

None of the rookies were outstanding.

Overall we were pretty ordinary and copped a fair pasting. Queenbeayan may well prove to be a good side, so hard to line up this early in the season. Having said that, we were a very young side with no senior leaders at all. The inclusion of players like Seymour and others as they come back through the 2's will be invaluable.

Yeah agree on McVeigh at 70kg they should give him some McDonald's vouchers and leave him at Quenbeyan.

Any chance LRt in the next few weeks?

We need a quality full back

I'm guessing two that the Bolton knockers played no attention to who he was playing on.

                              Disappointed for Ablett.
