I rate McVeigh higher than Ablett by the length of the Flemington Stright. Anyway I see no point having both in the side while still having to find places for Willo and Maxfield who while past their best are still going to make the team each week. Personally I think Maxfield should retire and hand his role over to McVeigh.

On the ruck position well who else do we have if Ball retires??? I picked my side based upon who we have on the list at the moment not who we might have because no one has a clue who we will get in the trade period. Personally I think Doyle will be a fine number 1 ruckman next year. In the side you'll note I put Eriksson in the side. I doubt he'll make it to the side so quick but other than him who do with have??? Don't say MJ, he'll be cut at years end.

Note, that I left out Paul Bevan, not on purpose just forgot about him. He'll be in the side don't worry about that. Just a question of where
      Once was, now elsewhere

          Yes.

Saddo has been playing as a forward in 2004. He has not turned out to the the CHB we've been praying for. LRT is everyone's new hope, despite the fact we've seen nothing of him there so far. He has struggled with injury and even when he has made it on the field, has looked all at sea. Im full of hope, but wont be holding my breath.

Many people on this site, me included, think Saddington is too weak to play a key defence role.LRT is being groomed for CHB but obviously his injuries have set him back a lot.

                Backs ------------- Bevan - Schauble - C. Bolton

                H. Backs ----------- Barry - Roberts-T - Goodes

                Centre ------------- Ablett - N. Davis - Kennelly

                H. Forward -------- O'Keefe - Hall - Saddington

                Forwards -----Schneider - O'Loughlin - J. Bolton

Rucks------------------ Doyle - Kirk - Buchanan

Bench ------------- Meiklejohn, McVeigh, Fixter, James

This is based on all players being fit and Williams/Maxfield/Ball retiring. As I look at it Mathews and Fosdike are no longer required, though Fosdike could be a handy forward pocket.

Actually I am in love with this team except for having LRT at CHB and Doyle as number one ruckman. Other than that we will scare anyone. Perhaps the addition of Bradshaw and Charman would be all we need

no way wheres nicks... and no mathews??? meiklejohn is a waste of time

                hasnt maxfield signed a contract

and that forward line is way too small

but i mean its hard to pick a team and thats a good line up
just mathews is hard done by

It is a pointless exercise picking a side when we have no idea who will be leaving the club and who will be coming in. We could end up with Brad Ottens as a ruckman for example.

I thought Maxfield had signed a one year contract for 2005? I could be wrong.

I have no faith in our prospects if LRT is CHB next year. I think Roos has made it quite clear that Goodsey will be playing there from now on.

Ablett and Jarred McVeigh must get more game time, possibly both as wings.

I like the idea of getting Mark McVeigh to Sydney.

I like it - would prefer a team with more potential than we have now. Of course if this was our line up next season we would probably have a worse year than this one.

I would probably put Goodes in the centre and would be concerned having the Hyphen at CHB at this point. I would probably envisage the Hyphen in a full-forward type role swapping with Doyle in the rucks. I would also try and get McVeigh in the starting line-up and find a spot for a "rookie" on the bench - argh! And this doesnt even have any veterans in the line up at all!!

After analysing the Roos game I have made a change. Nicks should play in the back 6. His kicking out is better than any other Swan IMO (and also in fact compared to other kickers from Sat. night if you gauge a successful kick in by whether or not the teams gets a possession outside 50)...also filled the hole well on a couple of occasions.....so

                      Backs ------------- Nicks - Schauble - C. Bolton

                      H. Backs ----------- Barry - James - Goodes

                      Centre ------------- Crouch - Davis - Kennelly

                      H. Forward -------- O'Keefe - Hall - Ablett

                      Forwards -----Schneider - O'Loughlin - Saddington

Rucks------------------ Doyle - Kirk - Buchanan

                      Bench ------------- J.Bolton, McVeigh, Bevan, Roberts-Thompson

Emergencies------Fixter, Thewlis, Davis (small, medium, tall)

Fixter out, Nicks in. James at CHB, LRT as benck tall/relief ruckman...... that should make you happy, Charlie.

The reason I haven't named a team with Williams/Maxfield and Ball is that it is more fun not to.

As someone has mentioned, we do have alot of midfielders.

                          Nicks
                          Ablett
                          Sunqvist
                          McVeigh (x2?)
                          Schmidt
                          Willoughby
                          Davis
                          Schneider
                          Buchanen
                          Williams
                          Maxfield
                          Kennelly
                          Goodes
                          Crouch
                          Mathews
                          Kirk
                          Bolton J
                          Fosdike
                          Bolton C
                          Potter
                          McGlone
                          Thewlis
                          Dempster(?)

                          That is alot.

                          I would consider

                          Mathews
                          J Bolton
                          Fosdike
                          Sunqvist

                          As Tradeable.

Williams and Maxfield will retire soon.

That would leave alot of midfielders still.
Altough Schneider,Davis and Goodes amongst others will probably not play whole games there.

one of my fav topics, however i couldnt be bothered reading this whole thread when ignorant fools think that "doyle will never make first ruck"!!!

                            crouch schauble bolton
                            barry LRT nicks

                            doyle williams maxfield
                            int: bolton mathews buchanan fosdike
                            emg: bevan mcveigh ablett

this is only assuming ball retires. maxfield has one more year in him, considering he only signed a contract a couple of weeks ago. williams has more than one year left in him. we need his clean hands in the centre!

the only major stint this year at chb for lrt was against melb in rd 5. he was outmarked by bruce. this particular contest has put many doubts in many minds. it has to remembered, however, that bruce is no slouch in his contested marking! with LRT's leg injuries i hope that he has had time to improve his upper body strength and over the preseason put on a few more kilos. he will be a handy CHB one day. whether that will be next year will yet be seen.

ruck: doyle first ruck. im assuming that the rules will be changed to the wizz fizz ruck rules and goodes will return to second ruck. im hoping we recruit a tall utility who can ruck and play KP (*cough* cam mooney, the wagga boy). if we do recruit that utility, replace him with LRT.

you simply cant drop mathews, but i hope fosdike is traded, which would elevate one of the emgs.

                            i like this team
