I was thinking last night how for so long Melb people bagged Sydney people for not knowing the game (which only held any creedence for a couple of the early years anyway IMO) and I noticed that all these Demon supporters (mainly) had no idea.

Perhaps it was more hope than anything else.
Sort of begging the umpires lol

yes, I used to agree with the bagging of Sydney people - but the past few years I have paid closer attention to other supporters and basically 90% of fans for any team scream out for anything.

Just the nature of the beast - all fans will take any free kick.

And why would Goodesy's number be taken?? He's on the mark...wow!! Try watchin the game and perhaps even learning it dude. Stewie hit a guy in the ribs while goin for the footy (no case to answer) - even if Adams number was taken it would be thrown out straight away. Get real mate.

I thought the game was gr8.

All the players played well it was a real team effort.
Went to the clinic today with my lil cousin and the players were all raped with the performance and the win especially Ball. Wally obviously meant alot to him.

Just one question motorace i dont want to start ppl but you always seem to disagree with everyone elses oppinion. Every1 is entitled to their oppinion and thats what it is an oppinion so some ppl will agree and others wont. Y do you always make ppl feel like their oppinions are wrong??
We all follow the same team so should accept others oppinions and keep on supporting the mighty bloods.

After games like this, youd be convinced we are just one red-hot midfielder off a serious flag contender.

If we win a flag now, I think all and sundry will call it a bit flukey including me.

We should throw buckets of cash, and all our fringe players + draft picks to go after someone like Judd, or similar.

Have to agree.I thought people in a footy mad state would be knowledgeable but most of them are clueless. They don't even know their own players.

Did you read your own comments, Iam sick of people like yourself who believe that the umpires are the reason we win or lose games. I got stuck into you because Iam one of those white maggots that give up there weekends so people like you can have a game to play in or watch and for saying my comments are pointless coming from THANK YOU

I thought the win was fantastic - absolutely brilliant. Really can't stress that enough. With the exception of O'Loughlin, I couldn't really point out that many outstanding performances, but rather it was solid team effort, which is what we really need to see to win games. Backline was exceptionally good.

Melbourne seemed to come out flat and we put a lot of pressure on them, which reinforced that flatness. Particularly pleasing was that we were able to withstand their run at us in the third quarter when they placed us under a lot of pressure. It remains a bit of a worry though that we respond to such pressure with negative football, and also produce last quarters like that. Understandable that the last quarter last night would be a negative affair just to make sure we win, but it does seem to be a bit of a habit.

As a game I thought it was a very ordinary and dull affair. We had patches of good play, but overall I thought the skills of both sides were fairly poor and lots of silly mistakes.

I still believe that if we can combine the best of our two 'game plans' we can have a very effective side in finals. We have the free flowing, fast running, high possession game, which can score quickly and blow teams away. We also have the tight, high pressure, in-close game where we lock the ball up, force stoppages and grind it forward.

In the proper combination, this could be an excellent combination of strategies for finals. I think the main problem is exactly how to carry it out without going too far one way or the other. Last year we relied on the flowing game, but under pressure it could come unstuck. This year, as a counter, we have used the stoppage game, but I think we have shifted too far to being negative.

A balance would be nice. I wonder if this is the reason we have seen such strange performances from the guys this year - still working on getting the game plan right.

Anyway, dull game but great win. As I seem to say nearly every week, hopefully this will see us finally run into decent and consistent form at the serious end of the season.

BTW - on the umpiring. Abysmally inconsistent as usual, but I don't think in any way it had a major affect on the outcome. Also, both sides were disadvantaged, and if anything we did slightly better out of it.

I tend to agree. An absolute class midfielder is the main thing we are missing. I still wonder if Kennelly could go close to being that type of player though.

Williams was showing some silky skills last night. It's a shame he's not five years younger. Still, it reminds you how valuable a quality midfielder is.
I like the idea of Judd playing for the Swans but there are 14 other sides who would like to recruit him.
Lenny Hayes was the one that got away.

But you're wrong! He was clearly practising his square dance steps! And you just know that Bazza always insists on being the boy.

                        - Impossible is just a big word thrown around by small men who find it easier to live in a world they've been given, than to explore the power they have to change it. Impossible is not a fact, it's an opinion. Impossible is not a declaration, it's a dare. Impossible is potential. Impossible is temporary. Impossible is nothing!

Ball would be a far more realistic target than Judd if we were after a super midfielder. His father used to play for the Swans and the Saints are more likely to run themselves into SC pressure than the Toasters. I realise it's still pie in the sky stuff to think about getting him but we can all dream now and again.

As for the game, was a superb effort by all 22. It wasn't the prettiest ever, but I am still a bit dumbfounded that they were able to regroup so effectively after last week. Will be tough for them to keep doing it but "one step at a time" will be the way to go.

And for those wondering about the numbers being taken, the umpires always take the number of both a reported player and the player he allegedy "offended" against. That's why the umpire ran over to take the number of the Melbourne game. I was a little concerned about it last night, but having watched the replay Maxfield's hit was pretty much simultaneous with the mark so he'd be very stiff to go for that.

And if Hall has any case to answer I'll be staggered, especially from the ruckas over the boundary line. It was just a vigorous tackle of a player clearly in possession. One of the Melbourne papers had a blown up picture of Hall's hand squashing Nicholson's face but after watching the replay we realised that was from an earlier incident, and at normal speed there appeared to be nothing at all in it - just a hand that slipped slightly high as part of another legitimate tackle.
