Mathews or Kirk on Hird is a disaster waiting to happen - he will push forward and kill either of those two guys in the air.

    I'm on the Chandwagon!!!

If you cannot compete for the premiership, it's better to be young and exciting than middle-aged and dowdy.

Yup - people tend to forget how tall Hird is. He is more than capable of playing as a key forward. I thought B2 did a reasonable job on him last time and would expect him to get first crack this weekend.

Thats exactly right. Put a short guy on him, and he will go forward. Put a taller defender on him, and he will run him off his feet and pick up possessions at will (and wont waste his disposals either). CBolt has the defensive skills and speed to go with Hird wherever he plays.

Didn't Roos go with a "if Hird is in the midfield then player A takes him, if Hird is going forward then player B takes him" approach in one of the games?

Quite a few teams have done that. Can produce problems of sorting out matchups though.

Eade had the rotations on Hird IIRC, Dyson on Hird in the midfield.Dunks if he was at full-forward and Roosy when Hird played CHF.Personally, I'm glad that we have a player like Bolton C who can play on Hird effectivally like round 6, as long as Hird doesnt get any bull**** free kicks.

How about Crouch or ablett on hird??

We would be conceding a good player if kirk piks him up??

IIRC the Bombers game earlier this year was the first time that Hird had played against us for a few years. And no, Roos chose not to use a different player against him depending where Hird played, on the basis that other teams had been badly burned by that. B2 is the obvious player in the team with both the height and the tank to go with him wherever Hird goes, although Hird is still a tough player to keep quiet for four quarters.

As for the suggestion of Crouch on Hird, I think the only response is "er...no". Hird is about 5 inches taller than Crouch, and Crouch isn't particularly strong overhead.

I'd start with C. Bolton, it ought to be a pretty good match-up but if that's not working then try Ablett, physically strong, reasonably good in the air and can knuckle down and focus on his opponent pretty well.

hird is full of courage and a champion player but hes not as tough as voss buckley archer hall etc the real hard nuts of the game.!!

hes had his face smashed in when he was unwavering in his attack on the ball

but one year he just landed against richmond and went of crying

to me a tough player though is the player who goes out for the real rough stuff eg archer... a bit of a dirty mongrel so i guess i was using the term incorrectly

no matter what theres no doubt hirds a great player one of the best ever

bolton was ok on him...but not good enough to get the job again... it depends where hird plays

we have to almost concede his influence and just try to attack rather than waste too much time shutting him down completley as it will take one of our best players
Theres not much left to say
